I've been to this dog park many times. I do agree if a dog is aggressive warn other owners and keep them on leash so it's not possible for other dogs just trying to have fun at risk of seriously getting injured. I get it people want to teach them to be social but when it's crowded it's best to not have the aggressive dog inside. The dog park is big and roomy enough. Please owners be considerate for others and your own pet safety. I also want to say if there's rough playing in the park that day I also recommend those owners to judge the park first before entering. It's best to always be careful. Sadly temporarily closed the dogs need that energy burn. Hopefully it opens again soon. Playground: There's a kid playground on the same street side right across from the dog park. Restrooms: The restroom is in the children's playground. Dog-friendliness: There are many personalities you'll meet. When a dog plays rough like a pitbull or rottweiler just be careful and the owners keep an eye on their behavior. They can play pretty rough as a breed it doesn't mean they're aggressive. I grew up with pitties that played rough and loved each other very much. You just have to tell them to slow down and be gentle.
Dogs are great. Dog owners are too. Folks are attentive, responsive, and I haven't experienced any significant doggy conflicts. On occasion, a responsible owners has chosen to leave for another time/day, instead of pressing a bad situation. Commendable!! Dog run is serviceable, but would benefit from better grounds maintenance/material and more sensible hours. Newly posted hours 8am-Dusk are to late for morning pre-workday use and to early mid autumn, all winter, mid spring for "evening" closing hours. Something I hope is reviewed and adjusted soon. It is an asset to this community and a safe space for dogs, dog owners and residents of NYC.
My fave park hands down. Love every doggo and pupper there, everyone is always welcomed
My furry friends and i have Always loved this dog run
Love this dog park. It's sad that it closes so early in the winter. Should close at 8 or 9 regardless of when the sun sets.
Took my husky pup to this dog park, being a first time dog owner I was a bit scared. Icey socialized so well and everyone was so welcoming, Bella and her owner was so helpful. The only thing that I didnt like and my dog could have been seriously hurt…..the spacing on the benches is not suitable to have in a dog park!!!! My pups leg got caught and thankfully she was fine, but trust me it could have been worse. Riverside park needs to rectify that ASAP
I don't have a dog but the pet owners and dogs seemed have good time. It is a large enough space for the K-NINES to run & play with each other as well as good excercise in a safe space. My Mom & I would watch them from a park bench nearby in warm weather.
It is an wonderful place for You and Your loved dogs! I love it . My 4 months dog have been learning, how to interact and shate with his new friends!
First impressions? We went to this location for the first time Sunday. This is our first time taking a 6 month German shepherd who has currently completed puppy training only. Good temperament and does well overall with all sizes. Our dog has been somewhat social and we have been looking forward to introducing him to more dogs. This location has several size breeds. There were at least based on our 2hr stay more smaller breeds. This park has a very active dog run area. Our dog played or was around 15 dogs but only about a handful were there at a time. From my observation all dogs were well mannered and they understood each others temperaments well. Our dog was not the only one having fun. We found ourselves making 2 new friends of our own. We had some good conversations and gained some more insight on what other owners are doing and works with their own pets. I think this is useful and nice to share with others who can gain further experience in helping their own dog have a more happy and healthy life. People here were friendly and social. Experinced owners who knew their dogs and had some knowledge on breeds so I was less worried about my own. Our dog is shy, alert and worry of humans reaching for him fast. We were at first concerned of people somewhat not respecting his space but people were also great with all the dogs and not just ours. We plan on frequenting this dog park run and updating review if things change for us but so far it was a positive first time experience. Thanks to all the welcoming and wonderful dogs/people here. Final thoughts I did observe most people picking up after their dogs but 2-3 times people didnt and the smell can be at first difficult. Please be observant of your dogs activity and come prepared to clean up after your dog. My dog is still tired after yesterday's intense playtime lol
Wanted to quickly respond to review post from Jennie Jenn, and you're absolutely right. One of our benches did have an unacceptable gap b/w the first and second slats. That's been addressed. I invite you to see our IG @dogrun142 dated Sept 27 2022. You'll see the repair we implemented. I didn't see a way to reply to you directly, so we're adding this review to say thank you for raising awareness of this issue. Please come back soon and see us at DR142.
