I have just received a rather large bill from this particular Fire Co. Allow me to explain why this company will NEVER receive money from me. I did not know that I was an asthmatic until the day these fools came to pick me up via ambulance due to my not being able to breathe. By the time they had arrived, I was completely passed out, at the bottom of the steps, on the second floor of the three story home where I was staying the night. When they arrived, they had assumed that I was "just a typical overdose" (truth be told, I never did overdose. I had taken a stronger medication however, it was not an overdose. The amount I took was an amount that my body was used to. I am unsure as to why they thought I was overdosed.) Anyhow, due to their thought that I was just "overdosing," I almost lost my young life. These ignorant people got to the house and stood around as if it was "no big deal" for about 10 minutes. One EMT was inside, asking one of the residents, with whom I stayed; questions (as protocol requires). Come to find out, he was asking the same questions many, many times. This clearly wasting a lot of time while I am steady NOT breathing. In the meantime, I was outside receiving little to no assessment. Now at this point, I am completely suffocating because I am having a severe asthma attack. (Obviously, every second counts.) Not only did they take their jolly old time; when they picked me up to put me on the stretcher, they grabbed at my arms and legs and pretty much dropped me on. When I say grabbed, I am being rather nice, as whoever grabbed my arms left DEEP purple/blue bruises. (This happened over the summer, and no kidding, I have a slight yellow mark on my right arm which still remains from the person who had grabbed me by the arms and dug their fingers in.) By the time I was FINALLY on my way to the hospital, I had awoken in the ambulance, looked to the first person I saw, who was a rather large looking blonde woman standing in the corner doing absolutely NOTHING; and choked out these words, "I can't breathe!" That same fat, blonde female who responded in her nasty little way, while bobbing her head as if to prove a point; said, "If you couldn't breathe, then you wouldn't be talking right now." Hey, she might have been right however; I was trying to tell them what was wrong with me. I then blacked out again (all the while I am seeing myself from a birds-eye view). By the time I had FINALLY gotten to the hospital to be PROPERLY assessed, I was put on life support to be operated on so that my lungs could be opened up. The pulmonary doctor came to my room in the ICU, two days later to speak with me about what happened. He asked many questions and allowed me to explain the "overdose" situation, rather than judging me. He then proceeded to tell me that I was quite the "miracle," as I was two minutes away from losing my life. TWO MINUTES! If it weren't for the doctor, I would have died. I honestly think that the ambulance and the crew that came out to "help" me, were partially responsible for my close brush with death. I feel as though I was lucky to have the Oxygen in the ambulance (that's about it) from the guy who took his sweet time to ask the person I stayed with, the same questions over and over again. I have to say, the person who miffed me off the most, was the fat, FAT, ogre-looking, blonde, who was obviously judging me by my being "just an overdose patient." Does it feel good to judge a patient who actually had NOT overdosed but had had a SEVERE ASTHMA ATTACK, and you with your "expertise" couldn't figure that out?!?! The "EMT's" who rode that day should be ashamed of themselves. Because of their "fabulous expertise," I almost dies at a VERY young age. So NO, you are NOT to receive money from me.
