Academy of the Sacred Heart is the oldest independent school in Michigan. It was founded in 1851 in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to its current location in Bloomfield Hills in 1958.
Two hundred years ago, our foundress, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat inspired the mission of the Academy. Her vision was to educate students with academic standards for excellence. She created an environment attentive to the development of the whole person, preparing each child to assume leadership roles in professional, civic and academic careers.
As a community, we believe the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education enable students to live lives of faith, intellectual excellence, responsibility to self and community and personal integrity. The Goals and Criteria provide the educational framework, national standards and inspiration for all that happens at the Academy.
