Great place to go when the weather is nice. During the summer there are paddle board and other rentals available. Usually very clean but only has one sheltered location making it hard to have more than one big group out there. If you are after a place to walk, bike, or run while enjoying nature I suggest this as the place to be.

It's a nice sized lake with paved walking and one gravel walking trail. During the mornings and afternoons it's less busy with people and tends to be more lively with nature. There are a lot of small to medium- sized birds and the occasional deer and Crane. It's also a great Pokémon Go nest.

This is my favorite place in all of Ames, Iowa! You have to see the sunrises and sunsets here. Especially when the lake is frozen over. Pure delight. I love to walk my dog here in the morning and watch the geese and deer. The trails are amazing and go on for miles and miles. They have beautiful hills and trees and fields. In the summer it is so fun to kayak the lake. When my friends and family came in town they couldn't believe we have such a beautiful park right here in Ames.

Ada Hayden is a wonderful area with tons of trails, and great water access. The only downside to Ada Hayden is running in to rich people who's homes border the back side of the park. For some reason the rich folks are under the impression that Ada Hayden is their private territory. Just make plenty of noise along the south side of the lake so they know better :)

Lovely asphalt path around the lake for walking, running and biking. Fishing and non-motor boating. Great location for a picnic.
