For the very first time I took my Nissan Pathfinder to Jim because the shift stick could not be moved from Park to Drive or Reverse easily. The Pathfinder is old and has rust on the frame and I requested for Jim to look at the rust and assess/advise whether it made sense to invest any more money in this car.  Jim not only advised me not to invest any money in this car but fixed the shift and did not charge me a penny.  I have never met this good man before, this was my first encounter. He gets an "A" for honesty from me.  I recommend him highly.

Jim took is an honest mechanic and told me exactly what he found wrong with my car. When he didn't know what was wrong with it he told me so flat out. He didn't try to oversell me on repairs, in fact, he tried to repair inexpensively as he could. My car is old and not worth its value in repairs. He made my car run, which was exactly what I wanted. Advanced Automotive Auto Repair Shop did a hell of a job and I would recommend them to anyone.

I used to go to the dealer and then I found Jim at Advanced Automotive Service.  I have a Nissan and he was a Master Tech at the Toyota dealerships before he opened his own shop.  I wasn't sure if he would be able to fix my Nissan, but I guess all the Japanese cars are pretty similar because Jim has been able to fix all the problems I've had in the past couple of years with my 10 yr. old Nissan.  I'm really lucky to have found someone who was once the best tech at a Toyota dealership working on my car. Not to mention that I SAVE A TON OF MONEY!

I found Jim Lahaise when I needed a Toyota mechanic to check out a used car I was thinking of buying in his area. I was so impressed with him and his knowledge that when I heard odd noises in another car that I had just bought, I called him after a dealership seemed to be blowing me off. Once Jim heard the noises, he quickly reinforced what other car owners had reported was the cause, on-line. It would be an expensive repair and though supposedly not a safety issue, it was one I felt I shouldn't have to live with in a low-mileage car. 

He helped me understand the approval process dealers have go through with manufacturers to get reimbursed for work in a case like mine--that they need to be able to reliably replicate a noise or problem. He encouraged me to be more persistent and suggested how I could replicate the noise more effectively, so they could proceed.

Jim knew that the work would be very expensive, that the car was under warranty, so he wouldn't be getting the job. He knew that I live an hour away and probably wouldn't be a regular customer. Yet, he spent time listening and giving me good advice that made a difference. Actually, I just may make the drive to give him at least some of my business once my car is out of warranty--and I definitely recommend that others with Japanese cars give him a try, including those who'd like a second opinion from an independent dealer-trained master mechanic. For those with hybrid cars, Jim was trained to work on Priuses and also teaches courses on hybrid cars and technology at a school.
