This place really disappointed me, I would give it zero stars if I could figure out how. Our baby went missing Monday 4/10 around 12:00 PM. I started calling the shelter by about 3:30 Monday. I called Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, each day I gave all of the details about my pet and the area he would have been picked up but I was told each time they didn't have him, and they would even put me on hold for several mins as if someone were actually checking to be sure, then would come back on the line apologizing telling me they didn't have him. I live in North Augusta, Edgefield County and apparently Edgefield doesn't have a shelter so they take their picks ups to the shelter on Wire Rd in Aiken. So after canvassing all surrounding neighborhoods several times daily, putting up posters and asking anyone we saw, and hearing nothing... I was almost to the point of giving up. I was convinced he was stolen and never coming back(he's so pretty and friendly, and I know what bad people do with Pitts) So I figured why not just call Edgefield and ask them just in case. I called the sheriff's office and she took notes and said she would have the animal officer call me. Within an hour the phone rang and it was him. He asked all of the details I had given so many times before, Pitt bull, blue(grey) and white, male, with a blue collar, super friendly and answers to the name Blu, the officer remembered my baby right away. He told me my dog was picked up in the same neighborhood I had been telling Aiken I thought he would have been within a couple hours of him going missing. I asked what info I needed to give Aiken since they had been denying me each time before and he said just call them and ask for Liz, she'll need a description and the location he was picked up... That's exactly what I've been telling them! So he gave me his contact info in case they still denied it this time. Of course, they didn't. This was the first time I had spoken to Liz, most of the previous times a male employee answered. And at this point it's Wednesday, my baby has been away from home for 2 unnecessary nights and they tell me- the manager and the vet is off today so he can't be picked up until tomorrow(Thursday) I was over joyed that finally it was confirmed he was there and he was okay but at the same time, I was pissed because he could have been home days ago had they have just told me the truth! Then I get charged ridiculous boarding fees, that I didn't feel responsible for so I spoke to the manager, Officer Arthers and he didn't have a clue what was going on. It took him 45 mins just to print me a detailed receipt and he did nothing about the misinformation I had been given all week by him or his staff, not even an explanation. I felt like they didn't want me to have my baby back. Then the women who work there started pressuring me to get him fixed (something I don't feel he is ready for) and proceeded to tell me how many dogs are carelessly breaded everyday like I'm just a careless pet owner and would breed my blue Pitt bull with a random stray and leave the puppies in the cold... I literally had to ask her did she really think I would just do that? I've owned my baby for almost two years and this is the first time y'all have gotten a hold to him, he's happy and healthy, so what exactly gives you that impression?!? Anyway, it was a horrible experience altogether and they do not give the feeling that they want to reunite pets with their owners! Plus, my baby looked like he had been on the streets all week rather than in a shelter, he was filthy and his ribs were showing. This was my first experience with an animal shelter and it was the worst!!!
