The Friends support the A.K. Smiley Public Library, providing funds for new books, Adult Literacy, infrastructure improvements and Children's Programs.
The Friends of A.K. Smiley Public Library is a volunteer non-profit organization that provides support and funding for children’s programs, adult literacy, infrastructure improvements and new book purchases for A.K. Smiley Public Library. To raise money for these programs and services, the Friends depend on public donations of books, CD’s, records, books on tape, records, magazines, and video games to sell at the bookstore on the lower level of the library at 125 W. Vine St., and at special sales and weekly silent auctions. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby entrance of the library. The Friends also gratefully accept direct donations.
There are many flexible volunteer opportunities for those who enjoy books and reading. Especially needed are individuals interested in working in the bookstore, serving as adult literacy tutors, and sharing their computer skills.
