Experienced orthopedic docs-I have received excellent care for shoulder, neck and hip pain over the years. They have spine specialists and a hand specialist. I know others in the neighborhood who have undergone hip replacement, knee replacement and carpal tunnel surgery with good results. Caring doctors and staff.

I was unfairly denied service by the Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic in Pelham, AL. I was referred to them by Dr. Lawrence Lee. I came into their office and filled out the appropriate paperwork and they scheduled my first appointment. Later, when I arrived for my first appointment, they refused to see me because I had not designated a primary care physician with Blue Cross Blue Shield. I told them that my BCBS insurance plan did not require me to have a PCP but the employee at the Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic refused to listen to me. I later called BCBS and explained the situation and BCBS confirmed to me that I do NOT need to designate a PCP to be referred to a specialist. I spent time and gas driving to my doctor appt. this morning with Dr. Gerhardt, I was refused service, and no one at the Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic apologized to me or seemed to truly care about what they had done to me. I had already given them my insurance information and my paperwork from Dr. Lee before they scheduled my appointment so there is no excuse for their unprofessional conduct. The Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic did not express any concern whatsoever about my being inconvenienced by their error. I called BCBS a third time to confirm and verify the truth. Under my insurance plan, I do not need to designate a primary care physician in order to be referred to a physical therapist. I will never do business with the Alabama Bone & Joint Center again. I called them to complain and left a voice message and they have never returned my call.
