Amazing collection of military uniforms and items. Run by volunteers and EVERYTHING was donated! I am a military collector and Veteran, and had no idea this place existed. Found a brochure at a rest stop and decided to check it out. You will not be disappointed! What an amazing tribute to our veterans! This museum is a hidden gem! The greatest asset are the informative, engaging, and entertaining docents. Our family spent about two hours here with Bob as our guide and all enjoyed the tour and commentary immensely. We all learned something new and we’re impressed by the organization from revolutionary war to present day conflicts and the quality of the exhibits. For parents this is a great place to visit with kids- our children ranging in age from 6-11 were all captivated. Our docent, Bob engaged them and thoughtfully answered their questions and pointed out particular areas he knew would interest them. This will not be our last visit- so much more to learn!
Hidden gem - if you’re looking for a place to hold a meeting, the venue here is great! Comfortable seating, two projection screens, PA system, - extremely accommodating staff, and very clean. The Museum is wonderful! Costs go to support the museum!
There's a lot of history packed into this place, and the best part about it are the veterans who welcome you in and show you around. It will be even better when their expansion is complete. Check it out when you're in Athens!
This museum is an absolutely enjoyable experience. All the artifacts are donated by veterans from the local area; the articles ranging from civil war area to Vietnam. Friendly volunteers help answer any questions you may have and make this a truly fitting musuem honoring our veterans.
This was our first visit but apparently they are just finishing up some big renovations. The museum used to be located in the railroad depot building and now it's inside a much bigger climate controlled one in the same parking lot. We had a great time looking through the collection and seeing the displays. It is well worth the trip to see so many pieces of United States military history. The staff were also very friendly and helpful while they answered questions and volunteered interesting facts.
This museum is a wealth of military memorabilia. I know it's not big enough any more but they have done a wonderful job with what they have! I love the 911 heroes run starts from there!
A true memorial to all the wars and the mem and women who sacrificed for the freedom of others. Operated by veterans for the preservation of history and important stories. Go see this and let's help preserve it for our children!
This place was great! We had alot of fun! We even had our own guide sho captured the kids attention and was very informative in interestung facts in history! Thank you to all for their hard work at the Veterans Museum!
