Yeah it's a bit noisy at times because it truly serves the entire community from young to old, rich to poor. However, the extent of services are unmatched in most ways and this library is a very welcome place for a wide range of people, including those less inclined to use typical "library" services. I have to commend Albany for creating a library that offers so much for almost anyone willing to step inside. While not the most extensive library in The Bay Area, it is hands down my favorite and certainly the most comfortable.

Homeless guy brings his cart in. Place fills with stench. But whoever runs the place won't do anything about it. Cart could have easily been left outside.

I like this library. Very nice and convenient inside and out. But i do agree with one other reviewer, this is the noisiest library i have ever been to. I sat here to study for 5 hours, and the place is like a "day care facility"...kids scream, cry, run around...the staffs are nice and helpful, but at the same time, they do talk to each other non-stop. I am not complaining. Just stating the facts of how it is like here. So if you need a nice and quiet place, then this is not it.

Here for 2 hours and it's Incredibly noisy. Noisiest library I've ever been to. Through careful attention to this astonishing reality, I realized to my shock that at least half of the noise is actually coming from the library staff themselves. The other half from patrons who apparently grew up on a different planet from me - one where no one has any sense of respect or ethics. As a young person, I was quiet as a mouse in the library starting from my earliest memory. Not so with today's generation. I shouldn't hear so much as a whisper in a library. This sounds like a newsroom or a cafeteria. Well I also have to say that only in America will you find the areas all segregated by age, with signs saying "Children's area," "teens area," "elderly area," and of course the adult area actually doesn't say adult area. It says "local history." God forbid should adults be exposed to young people, or to elderly people. I can only imagine the minds of the people who come up with these ideas. But it's very much aligned with the mentality today.

This local library is chock-full of everything one wants in a library -- books, music, videos, computer time and knowledgeable staff. It isn't just a branch library, it's Albany's library, although it is quite nice to have a connection to the Alameda County Library's system, too. And if what you want isn't listed there, be sure to look up your title in Link+, a resource like the old "interlibrary loan," whereby regional libraries hook together to give local clients the materials they want. I think it is good to keep in mind that a library is a lot more than a reading room these days. It is a place where kids can gather to research materials and to study, for adults to use free computer services and for everyone to find a wide variety of things to read, watch and listen to. Is it noisy? Well, yes. You will need to look elsewhere for quiet space.
