I have been going to Alfonso's of La Jolla since they opened in a back room of Jose's Mexican Restaurant on Herschel St in La Jolla in 1971. It is my favorite Mexican Restaurant. Their food is wonderful and they have great margaritas. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Their new location is nice because it is suited for large gatherings and social happy hours. When he makes an appearance, Alfonso, himself, goes around to each customer and greats them. I highly recommend trying this place. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Alfonso.

Many restaurants claim to treat you like family but this one actually delivers on that promise. The food has been consistently delicious for at the 35 years that I've been eating there and qhen they moved to Solana Beach they brought the original food and mellow vibe with them from La Jolla. Despite their success, the owner remain very much present and truly embidies the word host. The descor is warm and welcoming. It's not fancy and they don't change the menu to follow the trend of the latest trends, but they start with good ingredients and know how to use them to create classic dishes like camarones mojo de ajo and sauteed fajitas, dishes that very few places do well anymore. if you're not local, it's three minutes from the 5 to Highway 101, so why not pull off the Freeway and pull up a chair. You won't regret it.

In San Diego discussing Mexican food is akin to religious debate. At the risk of starting a family feud, I say newcomer Alfonso’s of La Jolla (now in Solana Beach) ranks among long time local institutions of Fidel’s and Tony’s. All three have there place. Only critique: chips are too thick (and music selection). Everything else is awesome, including the patio, vegan accommodation, their WiFi password and adding fresh chili pepper to your margarita (recommended). I imagine the SEO and branding are challenging, but this is not the proper channel for that discussion!
