This last summer, I had Jake Alpert, through Almont Anglers, take me out on a guided trip on the Taylor. Jake was PHENOMENAL! This was my first guided fly trip, but I had been on several other "guided" fishing trips in my life. I knew Jake was good, but I didn't know how good. I've since been out with two other guides. One was very good and one wasn't. The point being, that I didn't' know how good Jake was when he took me out for the day. He was patient, cheerful, and above all, knowledgeable. I've been fishing for almost thirty years and I still learned several things from him. He taught me different ways to look at the river and even taught me a new way to tie the standard fisherman's knot that blew me away. I think my favorite part about Jake is that he understood the purpose behind fishing. We all love to catch fish, but part of that is being outside, relaxing, hearing the water, feeling the wind, and enjoying yourself. Jake was working really hard to get me on fish, but I never felt like that was the main reason we were out there. One of the other guides that I recently went out with literally went from pool to pool hunting big fish. That can be fun, but he literally got mad when we hooked some smaller fish. He would just rip them off the hook and throw them back before anyone could even look at them. Here's the bottom line. You won't be disappointed in the least if you have Jake take you out. I also spent all of this time talking about Jake, but that really reflects on how great this fly shop is. They know to employ good people. Everyone was friendly and helpful even though I was new-again to the fly fishing (not fishing itself). No one ever talked down to me or came at me with an elitist attitude. Bottom line: buy some gear here and have Jake Alpert take you out for a day!

My go to fly shop around Gunnison area. Owner is a great guy and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this shop.
