Another absolutely wonderful service! I expect a church to feed me 'post transformational spiritual wine' at this stage in my life. Not grapes. And Travis does! But he seems to have plenty of great tasting spiritual grapes around this place too!. So this is the perfect church for basically ANYONE that wants to be fed. Each of their soldiers are wise in The Word way beyond their years. The services literally blow me away. Basically, if you need to chew on some spiritual grapes, you will love it. AND, if your tastes lead more towards spiritual wine after it has been "transformed", you will love it. And the praise and worship rocks your soul. So what is to dislike? This church WILL feed you spiritual milk, bread, meat and even wine (rare these days)....whatever your needs. And love you, if you just come. Period. Your situation, age, race, creed, ethnicity, national origin, nor your age will probably never even be noticed....except perhaps by me? :-) The Word is not confused with pop-Christian psychobable at Antioch. In order words, put your baggage in Jesus' cart at the door and be prepared to be loved, fed The Truth and find your own place in God's heart here.

If you want to find out what the heart of a church is, show up on a week night service of prayer and fasting. This is a church full of energy and the Spirit of the Lord. Visiting from Michigan, we could sense the Holy Spirit repeat from the people leading worship what I was praying in my heart.

I have been a member of Antioch for 5 years now and I am continually amazed at the authenticity of the community here and of the transformation in my life of experiencing real relationship with God.

My family visited this church back in February 2017. I myself am an ex-member of Antioch-Waco, another church in Antioch PHX's "non-denominational" church affiliation -- what I call a small denomination, because of common and unique doctrinal stances and practices -- a group called the Antioch International Movement of Churches. Our experience the one Sunday we attended was ok; however, it was a bit reminiscent for me of the unfortunately negative experience I had with Antioch-Waco. These guys can come across as wonderfully kind and loving, especially at first. Even now, though I disagree with them in terms of doctrine and practices, they still pray for me when I reach out to them, which I appreciate. They also often try to learn from constructive criticism. I would say that they are probably apt to be well-intended and sincere. But, you have to be on your guard longer-term for potential spiritual abuse along the lines of problems from the Shepherding / one-on-one Discipleship movements and Post-WWII Latter Rain / Third Wave charismatic movements. As is common around Chandler and surrounding areas, they are also complementarian, I believe -- although probably in an unusually liberal (and at times subtle) sense, if it's the same style at Antioch-Waco. As a female, I personally found it problematic at Antioch-Waco, although many female members have liked it. One of the biggest concerns I have with Antioch Movement churches is that leadership can be difficult to approach. They tend to develop very strong leadership hierarchies that will act as basically a pecking order, and will develop into a unique subculture, whereby it can be difficult to address situations of abuse, especially when a baseline female is the one concerned. In my experience with Antioch Movement senior leaders, they tend to be reluctant to answer any questions or address concerns in writing. I find this problematic. In my experience with a couple of Antioch Movement congregations, the leadership will tend more often than not to be weak in conflict resolution. I would suspect this to stem from Antioch's relatively strict adherence to church-wide one-on-one discipleship mentoring often making senior leaders' schedules too busy to meet with concerned members. One solution to this is to set aside some time for any member to approach higher-ranking leaders with concerns. This way, the leadership can better honor Christ's command to stop what they are doing and first address the concerns of brethren they have offended (Matthew 5:17-26). This is important for Antioch Movement leaders, because the Antioch Movement does have a dissident splinter group -- albeit small and loosely-organized -- stemming from concerns of ex-members. If I could say two final things: I would recommend against using music with syncopated beats. The music was not loud but about right when we were there, but the syncopation from one of the songs did seem to throw my heart off, which had me concerned. One young man from Antioch-Waco died playing the djembe on one of our mission trips, so I think that there is some validity to being careful with this. Secondly, my non-Antioch husband and I found the praise of individuals in the church a bit distracting from worshipping Christ. Antioch-Waco had a tendency to do this, too. I don't think it's a good idea. I believe that we should be seeking to honor God for the sake of honoring God, not seeking the praise of men, which runs the risk of rendering us conceited, even as it can sow discord in a congregation. But, that's my opinion. That said, we were there when the pastor's mentor was preaching, no the main pastor. While I do love Antioch's passion for Jesus and her desire to love people well, I think that Antiochers could benefit from learning a bit more from non-Antiocher Christians who think and act a bit differently than they do, while also seeking to honor the Lord.
