bad service , took 2 hours to diagnose about malfunction of heat pump and charged me very high price for the fan motor to replace. one of friend who works in the same field told should be half of that they charged me

There's a reason Archie's has been voted "Best in the City" every year since 2006! I have used them both for residential and construction, and they always go above and beyond my expectations. Love that they are a local family owned company too!

Customer service at AJP is obsolete. My first impulse is to trust the professionals at local businesses. By the time I had finished doing business with Archie Johnston Plumbing, I felt scammed. I called for an estimate because an outdoor drain was backing up and I knew it needed excavation and a pump. I was charged 2 hours labour for this. Why? Because AJP called it a ‘service call’ instead of an estimate. When I complained, I was told that the original invoice ‘stands’. Later, they relented and shaved an hour off. I have never heard of a business charging for an estimate, especially if you hire them to do the work. I was also subjected to a hard sell to get my perimeter drain assessed. Because it wasn’t connected to the problem at hand, I said ‘no’ twice but, after much discussion, they convinced me that it was necessary. I have an old house so I knew a sluggish, plugged up perimeter drain is normal. Guess what? Three hundred dollars later, the assessment told me that I have a sluggish, plugged up perimeter drain with no other specific information. I was beginning to feel like I had just contributed to the Christmas party fund. They installed a pump to solve my problem. I believe that the pump was bigger than was needed, but it is doing the job. Unfortunately, the hole was left uncovered and it is right in front of my door! I was told that someone was making me a metal grate (for more money!) but I never heard from anyone again. I feel like the victim of a money grab and I’m so unhappy with the whole mess. Beware!

I am posting this as a caution to anyone who is considering using this company. We had Archie Johnson come to look at a plumbing problem and the plumber was not competent, he was not able to fix anything. They then sent us a bill for $165. When we complained about the plumbing service, they said too bad, you have to pay the bill anyways and were quite rude on the phone. We tried to reason with them and spoke to the owner to let him know that the plumber he sent was incompetent. We offered to pay half the bill to cover the charges of the house call, but he refused to budge on the invoice. The matter was referred to a collection agency and they tanked our credit rating. These people have no empathy for their clients and are completely incompetent. Do not hire them. I wish that we had read the other reviews before calling them.
