We are a fellowship of people who strive to live our mission statement: To Worship God and welcome people in love;
God is at the beginning of all things and God was at the beginning of Asbury United Methodist Church. Worship, study, service and fellowship have marked our churchs growth from its beginning in 1957. In June of 1957, Rev. John K. Moore was appointed to serve John Huss Methodist Church as pastor and organize a new church for the southwest quadrant of Cedar Rapids. A small group of people began meeting at Wilson Junior High School as a church. At a later chartering meeting the name Asbury, after the first Methodist American bishop Francis Asbury, was selected for the new church.The first worship service was held on September 22, 1957, in the Wilson Junior High School cafeteria with 29 charter members. Consecration service for the new Sanctuary unit was held on February 14, 1960 by Bishop F. Gerald Ensley.
