Asbury United Methodist Church

About

We are a fellowship of people who strive to live our mission statement: To Worship God and welcome people in love;

Story

God is at the beginning of all things and God was at the beginning of Asbury United Methodist Church. Worship, study, service and fellowship have marked our churchs growth from its beginning in 1957. In June of 1957, Rev. John K. Moore was appointed to serve John Huss Methodist Church as pastor and organize a new church for the southwest quadrant of Cedar Rapids. A small group of people began meeting at Wilson Junior High School as a church. At a later chartering meeting the name Asbury, after the first Methodist American bishop Francis Asbury, was selected for the new church.The first worship service was held on September 22, 1957, in the Wilson Junior High School cafeteria with 29 charter members. Consecration service for the new Sanctuary unit was held on February 14, 1960 by Bishop F. Gerald Ensley. We have several worship opportunities for you to enjoy, so come and worship God with us this Sunday! You can join us for either service or sunday school, or simply come for dinner Sunday night. We have sunday school opportunities for everyone! Whether you are young or old or somewhere in between, come study with us! We're always trying to do something special at Asbury, and we're thrilled that you might join us for one of our special programs. Check our newsletter for monthly activities! We also list all the other events going on at Asbury from casual Sunday to blood pressure clinics to special Bible Study groups. You can find all the activities in one place - our monthly calendar! 1963: the Chada-Pautz Fellowship to serve seniors. 1976: Asbury Youth Club , 1992: Asbury House completed , 2003: Asbury Day Care began

Beware of this daycare!!! My son attended as an infant. Two of the workers got into an actual fight in front of kids. The head of the daycare explained to me that they had to report it since some of the kids that saw it could talk (apparently they aren’t worried about what happens if nobody can talk about it). So the infant portion was shut down. Instead of telling me that it was shut down when I picked up my son, they handed me a folded over note along with some other stuff so I didn’t see it right away. Do not trust them with your breast milk!!! They would dump mine out at the end of the day if it wasn’t used even though it was still in the original breast milk bag (it should have been good for multiple days). I heard staff using aggressive language towards toddlers. After leaving this daycare, the next daycare let me know that my baby was not as strong as he should be. No one ever showed any concern at the first daycare. It was my first baby so I was dependent on knowledge of others if my son was developing typically. It would have been nice if Asbury would have cared. They were apparently too busy throwing out his breast milk.
