Houston food tour starts with a bang! Silver spoon chicken roll - Beef dhaga kabab - Nihari - Naan - I finally made it to Ashar’s Kitchen in Houston after much anticipation. Traveling 1000 miles for a Houston food tour, this was my first stop and also my 10th, see below, and I was not disappointed. The moment I walked in, Ghazala greeted us immediately, making sure to take our order efficiently. The other staff was plentiful and prompt as well. The no-nonsense menu offered a satisfying variety without overwhelming choices. Our food arrived within 12-15 minutes, beautifully presented with the same attentive service. The Silver Spoon chicken kabab roll was a standout - it reminded me of the ones from Karachi, matching every detail down to the wax paper wrapping. The flavors were exquisite, from the first bite to the last. The beef dhaga kabab, though not exceptional, was decent, while the Nihari, a king of beef gravy dishes, impressed with its generous portion size. The naans were a delightful accompaniment, incredibly fresh and soft. It was a fantastic start to our Houston food tour, offering authentic Karachi taste that's a must-visit. The decor was pleasing, the tables and utensils were clean, and the presence of chafing dishes at the table to keep food warm was a thoughtful touch. The abundance of attentive staff made the experience even better. I'm looking forward to exploring their weekend brunch buffet if time allows. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, seeking exquisite Pakistani Karachi taste, this place deserves a spot on your culinary journey. UPDATE: Chicken biryani - Chicken boti - Silver spoon beef roll - We returned to Ashar’s kitchen once more making it our first and also our 10th stop on a continued Houston food tour in an effort to explore more of the menu. This time around, however, the items we selected didn’t work out so well. The chicken biryani on the bone did not have the authentic biryani aroma and the taste was lacking compared to what we were anticipating. The portion size was good and the meat was fresh and not overly dry, but missing the true biryani taste did not win us over. We also tried the tandoori chicken boti, which are boneless cubes of chicken breast bar-b-q’d in a clay oven. You get 6 decent size pieces to an order and they fittingly looked the part - orange, a little moist, and slightly charred - just as expected. But again, the taste was a letdown. It’s not that it tasted bad, but it didn’t create any wow! We also ordered the silver spoon beef kabab roll. Given how delicious the chicken kabab roll was on our previous visit, we were confident this would be the star of the meal tonight. Unfortunately, we were wrong. Perhaps the previous meal set the bar so high that we set ourselves up to be disappointed or perhaps the reality is that not all items on the menu can be excellent. This doesn’t mean we will give up on Ashar’s. There’s so much more to try. On Tuesday’s they have BBQ night buffet, on Wednesday’s they have Nihari night buffet and on Sunday’s they sever their famous brunch. All of which we want to try.
I tried the nehari at this place—slightly spicy, but the flavor was delightful.Naan are so fluffy and freshly baked. The tea was also enjoyable.Food: 5/5
We comes here all the time we order nihari and dhaga kabab. Kabab comes out good nihari meat comes out hard and black and smelly i told him to change he bring me again same kind usually we not like to complain but i called him again he bring me another one that looks good to me but its cold by the time we already finished kabab so we left the food on the table its looks like inside management doesn’t care one more table i saw they were complaining about the meat also I posted two pictures see the difference
A typical desi joint with average style seating but very good Nehari- what takes any desi restaurant from good to awesome is their service and their Naans- Ashar’s kulcha naan were the show stopper - no doubt the nehari was also good and was served in a way to stay warm till the last bite- the Dhaga kebabs are 6/10 from someone who has lived and eaten 16+ years in Toronto , the Mecca of desi food- if I have to try something next time it will definitely be their Chargha -
Ashar's Kitchen just blew my taste buds away with their nhari – I'm almost convinced it's secretly teleported from Pakistan! The flavors are like a Desi flavor explosion – rich, authentic, and bringing back all those homey vibes. The nhari quality? Absolute surprise package – you'll feel like you've been transported to a Pakistani kitchen. If you're a fan of real-deal Desi dishes, this place is a must-try. Ashar's Kitchen has nailed those Pakistani flavors, making it the go-to spot for a taste of home when you're far away!
One of the best Nihari i ever try in Houston area. Kebab are on point, Naan are so fluffy and fresh. Highly recommandedFood: 5/5
Their nehari are very good and dhaga kabab was good too . Prices are a bit higher. I had just been there one time and didn't like their service, maybe because i went on Sunday, which is a busy day. Overall, it's a good place if you are missing karachi's nehariFood: 4/5
While this place is absolutely a family and friends type of restaurant, it’s definitely not a place you come dressed to. Very busy, and sort of has the run down feeling. The food is however more than average. Their breakfast on the weekend is good and the Nihari buffet on Wednesdays is also worth a try, at least once. Tuesdays is their BBQ night and definitely not worth the hype, the weight, and the quality of service. However, give it a try at least once if you’re a foodie. My favourite dish so far has been the paya Nihari.
First of all, the Chicken Seekh Kabab literally looked like my fingers thin, bland, and a dissatisfying and the price for that? Hell no. The picture did not look like that. Literally false advertisement. There were more onions on the platter than the so called “Chicken Seekh Kabab.” The chicken tenders came with 4-5pcs? Wrong. It came with 2 and was salty. The fries looked weird and 6 bucks for that? And the service was terrible, they cannot hear, lazy, and they refused to split a bill between a family. There are also flies everywhere. The only thing that was decent was the naan, the only thing that was flavored. What a joke.
Visiting from Toronto and had heard great things about their Nihari, tried it and found it awesome! was served by Asma and her service was excellent, keep up the good work guysFood: 5/5
