We're a Credit Union made for our members and by our members. Our goal is to offer the best financial tools to enable you create a better financial future.
Baptist Credit Union was chartered in 1955 as Memorial Hospital Employees Federal Credit Union by employees of the Baptist Memorial Hospital System of San Antonio, Texas. The credit union served that field of membership exclusively for 25 years. In 1982, the name was changed to Health Professions Federal Credit Union and the field of membership was expanded to include physicians of the Bexar County Medical Society and their employees.
In 1989, the name was again changed to Baptist Federal Credit Union and the field of membership was expanded to include employees of the San Antonio Baptist Association and employees of churches belonging to the San Antonio Baptist Association (SABA).
During the 1990's, individual churches that belong to SABA have been added to the field-of-membership so that members of those churches could take advantage of membership in the credit union.
In 1995, Baptist Employees Credit Union of Texas (based in Dallas) was merged into Baptist Federal Credit Union and the field-of-membership was expanded to include members of Baptist Employees Credit Union. This allowed employees of any church or institution associated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) to join the credit union.
On June 15, 1998, the credit union converted from a Federal charter to a State charter and dropped the word Federal from its name. Baptist Credit Union began in 1955 with $50 in assets. Through four decades and three name changes, the credit union has grown to over $20 million in assets!
In 2000, Dallas Baptist Association (DBA) petitioned for inclusion in field-of-membership (FOM) with the credit union and the FOM was expanded to include members of churches in the DBA. Wayland University, San Antonio joined our FOM in 2004. In 2006, Baptist University of the Americas petitioned FOM and Dallas Baptist University has joined our FOM in 2007.
In the Fall of 2007 Baptist Credit Union applied for a Fraternal Affiliation with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention and in early 2008 was accepted. The SBTC requested and has been accepted in our field-of-membership, making the staff of the SBTC, pastors, staff and members of SBTC churches eligible for membership.
In 2009 - 2010, Tarrant Baptist Association, North Texas Area Baptist Association and Bluebonnet Baptist Association joined our field-of-membership. In 2010, Christian Financial Association of America applied for field-of-membership making its individual members and member churches eligible for membership in the credit union.
During its 56-year history, the credit union has grown in membership and assets and now maintains over $28 million dollars in assets and has approximately 7,800 members. We are proud of our growth in size and services, and the credit union remains focused on providing its members with superior service every day!
Baptist Credit Union exists to improve member's lives through extraordinary service, quality financial products and services, personal finance education, and a long-term relationship with the credit union.
