I have been soo pleased with Dr. Donna Shepherd and with Austin Vision Associates. Her demeanor is fantastic, she never condescends about age,  and she has great shoes :-) In addition, I have visited AVA next door for new glasses and Patrick really hooked me up with great sunglasses. The reason I'm posting this is that I asked for a recommendation for a person that could fix my old glasses and was referred to AVA. Alyssa said, "oh, I can do that for you right now." Didn't charge me and offered me a new eye glass case. What a wonderful experience! I'll never go anywhere else.

I had a great experience at AVA. I used my insurance website to find an in-network provider. I only have medical health insurance, not vision-specific insurance. However, the cost of my visit for my vision exam and contact fitting/exam was very affordable. Dr. Shepard was very polite and knowledgeable. It was easy to schedule my appointment, and there was no wait on a Tuesday during lunch time. I was seen within a few minutes of my arrival, and out the door in under an hour. 

Dr. Shepard gave me some trial contacts, and the woman at the front desk provided my glasses prescription upon checkout. They even ordered an additional trial version for me to make sure I liked them before I purchased the entire box. Great service, and happy to have a new eye doctor in Austin.

Our family has been going to this office for years (about 6) and it has been nothing but exceptional service. I have used both doctors and it's the same great treatment all around. They have a huge selection in eyewear from many designers. Great place and we won't go anywhere else!

Dr. Shepard is AWESOME, just a great guy who is highly efficient in terms of getting you in & out.  I highly recommend him.  The rest of the establishment? Not so much.  In fact, not recommended AT ALL.  I purchased a pair of D&G frames approximately 3 weeks ago.  They were supposed to be "ready" in about 10-14 days.  Nobody in the office communicated with me about why they had not yet arrived; so when I called to find out what's up, I was told that there was a scratch on the frames & that Austin Vision Associates had done me a grand favor of paying to have them repaired.  A.) Why is something brand new being repaired and not replaced? B.) It's no favor to replace a defective item for a customer who has paid for a new item.  I was told that someone would give me a call "in a few minutes" as to when they would be ready.  Three days later, I am still awaiting that phone call.  Today, on a Friday, I'm attempting to call them to cancel my order & refund my funds, yet they are not answering their phones.  I, for one, will not be returning here and do not recommend this place.  There are far too many options in Austin for stylish designer frames for them to conduct their business in such an unprofessional manner.

I just had to report AVA to the Better Business Bureau.

I had an eye exam at Austin Vision Associates back in September 2014 as a new patient. At the end of my visit, I was asked for payment in full. As I believed the visit would be covered by my insurance provider, I asked Austin Vision Associates to contact my insurance provider for payment. They said that they would, and that they would not be able to provide me with my prescription for new glasses & contact lenses until payment was made. I said I understood and would wait for a resolution between Austin Vision Associates and my insurance provider. In May 2015, I was finally informed of how much was paid by insurance and was billed for the remaining amount, which I paid immediately to Austin Vision Associates. At that time, I spoke with them over the phone, and they said they would mail me my prescription. I still have not received the prescription in the mail from them. Between September 7th and September 11th, I received a reminder from them to schedule a new appointment. I immediately called to schedule an appointment but I informed them that they did not fulfill all of the services which I had paid for as I never received my prescription in 2014 and believed they should discount the new appointment. I was informed their billings person was out of the office and would call me back the following business day. After a week with no call, I called them back today and was told there would be no discount and they do not plan on doing anything to correct their error. 

Save yourself and DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE.  They're terrible and their customer service stinks to hell.
