This is a great community, feels safe and secure. Depending on the building, apartment quality varies but overall nice place to live. Leasing office staffs are great and always ready to help. The maintenance team is awesome (special kudos to Solomon, he is so passionate for his work. He takes his time and can literally fix anything. He even follows up after the maintenance request is complete). This is our third year and hopefully will continue living here if rent is manageable for us.

The Maintenance here is Extraordinary. Salomon and Rolando have been so Wonderful and Omar and Madeline and Kendra from the office and Everyone else. I am a little ill right now so I can't remember everyone.

The office staff is very helpful and this is a great community for pets. The buildings are a little run down, with sags in the hallway floors, and doors, handles, and other structures constantly breaking. As other have posted, the main issues with Avalon are the massive increases in rent (99% cost increase to pay month-to-month), and their likelihood to keep more of your security deposit than is warranted. I payed for the clean sweep ($120), and was still charged ~$100 more in bogus cleaning fees. This was after someone from the office said that the unit was fine in the pre-move inspection.

I have to say that the service provided recently was spectacular. The Technician is very knowledgeable, kind and efficient. I have owned a house before, and have met all sorts of technicians, so I really enjoy the speed and quick turnaround time here!

Updating my review (dated 1/4/18) The building has communicated a lot more with us since my last review. Our FOBs have been grandfathered in after we asked for our money back, so we ended up getting to keep them after all the hullabaloo. We asked for kitchen upgrades and miraculously we got someone to come in and measure the cabinets! We were at first e-mailed about a new floor and cabinets and then were told only the cabinets were in the budget as each individual cabinet costs hundreds (?!). We asked about possible renovations while we were out around the holidays but got nothing yet. We also asked for a new microwave since ours is dated as manufactured in May 2003. Something from this decade would be nice, it doesn't have to be new. We've basically given up on our washer as it looks like we can't get a refurbished one as we did with our dryer. Hey, we're lucky we can wash and dry! They're getting slightly better with plowing and salting this winter so far. The moral of the story is, if you express your concerns via e-mail or in my case Google review, they will get in touch with you and try to make it better...it make takes months but I can't imagine if all the apartments are like this how much maintenance needs to be done on a daily basis. The leasing team and our neighbors are fantastic as always. Wanted to update my review again (dated 11/8/2017) Pretty much over this place. The termites have a band-aid on them now (caulking on the windows...). It's a shame because the location is amazing, the pool and gym are fantastic and we love our neighbors. Anyway, the latest in the never-ending train of stupid: we are currently being forced to give up our spare key FOB we paid $50 for three and a half years ago. We were told with the new FOB upgrade system that our spare is a "security issue." Meanwhile, we keep the FOB in our apartment and only use it when family come to visit or a cousin or friend of ours watches our dog. We are working now to hopefully get that $50 back. Here's the funny thing...the "security" issue is supposed to be resolved by our visitors or dog watchers buzzing a callbox. What if we don't have service to buzz them in while we're away? My number isn't a local number so it can't go into our call box. Half the time the call boxes don't even work! Everything is in shambles. Our kitchen is basically falling apart with our cabinet paint peeling, our ugly white countertops are permanently stained because they're the cheapest countertop possible. It took over three months for me to get our windows cleaned from the outside. We were told the Avalon garden-style apartments don't do window washing. After years of staring at the same bird poop it was nice to finally get them clean. The maintenance guys are super nice too which is a shame because the management isn't that great. I feel bad for the maintenance guys because they're constantly repairing appliances in this place that are nearing 15 years old. Our dryer still takes hours to dry, our washer is on its last leg. Honestly, this place is going to probably need to renovate once they start developing in the Grosvenor area...if they don't most will move out. I know we would if there was a comparable, newer place with better management in a heartbeat. The only thing keeping us here as I said are the people, the pool, the gym and the location...and a few leasing agents who are pretty cool and capable. I'd recommend the new Pike and Rose development or even the Meridian for a place to live if you're looking in the area. Wanted to update my review. I just called whirlpool to see when our dishwasher was installed. It's a 2003 model. I just feel like we're paying a lot for a 13 year old dishwasher (and most likely washer and dryer the same age!).
