I liked the hotel, but was disappointed that the charge for my dog to stay was high on top of the highly priced room. On top of that, I was not allowed to leave her in the room except to walk to the office for breakfast. That meant she had to be left in the car while we went to dinner around the corner. The breakfast was very good, the room was clean, and the grounds were nicely groomed. I think that they can get away with the high price because there aren't any other choices in the area.

2nd stay at Ayres and it got better!  This time we stayed in #133 which is on the back side of the building.  Nice quiet wooded and grassy courtyard area off of our room which was very appreciated coming from Tucson.  Other Inn guests were so friendly.  We upgraded our room this trip and it was so worth it!  Clean room and bath, great bed and bedding, nice flat screen TV, and the most friendly accommodating staff!  We stayed two nights partly for the fun of the nearby Casino (free shuttle to Viejas from Ayres) but also for some down time before hitting San Diego beaches.  At check out the Inn Manager printed out directions to his favorite Italian/pizza spot in San Diego after we asked for a recommendation.  What a recommendation - Filippis Pizza Grotto is to die for!!!  Our next four days we stayed at the Hilton on Mission Bay....sorry Hilton - no comparison.  At Ayres you are appreciated as a guest and they let you know it!  On our next trip to San Diego...we will be asking for "our room" at the Ayres for our break before hitting the beach!  If you want to have some fun in Alpine, hit the Casino Bar and play a game of Golden Tee golf and enjoy the good music they play!
