This place is one of the best in New Mexico. Executive Chef Aaron Spring is a food magician! Fine dining in a casual beautiful atmosphere. Everything is amazing from appetizers, main dishes to desserts and drinks! All around great experience every time I go!!! Hats off to this place!!!
The only reason I gave this restaurant 2 stars is simply because the ambience of the dining area and the cleanliness. We were a party of five and I believe there was two other tables with parties of two. Food almost took an hour to come out and everything was pretty much cold when we did receive it, the bagel I got served was rock hard. Unfortunately nothing about the food was good and the menu was extremely over priced.
We stayed in the main hotel- Hotel Encantos de las Cruces and on our first night we decided to eat in at the restaurant downstairs and I ordered stone grits and prawns in tomato sauce… needless to say the food is absolute !! The home beer was ok and the Manager was nice enough take the food off my receipt even offered if I wanted to get something else from the menu, but I was already turned off and recommended for them to take that item off the menu as it was horrible!
Wife and I had a great time but that's how we are everywhere. Awesome setting but DJ kinda sucked, kept losing dancers when he played a certain genre, know your audience. The bar is really lacking staff and experience, spent 20 minutes mid bar before I had my order taken and it was very weak, unacceptable.
Be very careful if you choose to be a customer here. Check your bill carefully. If there is an overcharge error, do not pay until it is resolved. We've waited in vain for resolution to a problem we reported just 5 minutes after we'd paid our bill. Mezcla staff reportedly could not solve the problem then. "It was too late." However, we were assured by both the Mezcla restaurant / bar manager as well as the Hotel Encanto floor manager that they would resolve it. Here are details, exactly as it happened. We were guests of the hotel and had a drink at the bar before going out to dinner. My wife ordered a house chardonnay and I ordered a Johnnie Walker Black Label and soda. They said they had only Red and Blue Label. No Black Label. So I ordered the Blue. We got the bill and I added a 5 dollar tip there were 2 bartenders and no other customers - they needed a bit of love and charged the bill to our room. Walking out I looked at my receipt what what we had been charged at wife's insistence. She has a 6th sense about rip offs. To my shock the bill was 58 bucks for 2 drinks! So with tip I was out 63 bucks for a house wine and a scotch. We of course returned to question the bill and quickly discovered that the bartender had not made a mistake. The scotch was 50 bucks a shot in their computer system. We talked to the bar's night manager we later learned he was actually the cook who referred us to their day manager. The next morning Saturday we did talk to him during checkout from the hotel. He said the cause was a setup error in their brand new system that only the bookkeeper could resolve. It was Saturday and she would in the office on Monday. To be clear, the bar manager acknowledged that this was an overcharge and promised he would personally see to it was taken care of. Then call us to confirm resolution. Silly us, we took his word and the hotel floor manager's word. There has been no call. There has been no resolution. We've learned our lesson. We're going to report the overcharge to Visa of course. Also make it a point to avoid all the hotels and restaurants in the Heritage Hotel chain. Note that there are a lot of them in New Mexico. All proudly touted as exclusive resorts and fine hotels where their customers will be well treated in every respect. Yes. This company had trained its employees very well to talk the talk. However they have not trained them on how to walk the walk.
Seriously slow service at the bar... you're better off getting a drink at Gardunos next door even then it's still lengthy. Azul needs more bartenders, they've had one bartender stuck at the POS station while there's a wait of 3-5 people for more than 10 minutes, on a weekend! Step up your game if you want tips.
It’s a nice place, looks classy, music is great, full bar, plenty of tables, entrance is free and yet - almost empty every time I am there, and I talking about weekends it would be so great if there was more people...
Horrible! I went in there with my date and we sat down at a table and the staff told us WE HAD TO PAY TO RENT THE BOOTH! I asked if they had extra bar stools, which they had very few of to begin with so we could sit down and they said no, they were actually trying to get rid of them. So you can't sit at the bar and you have to pay extra money just to sit at a table. I am not joking!
Drinks were decent. The ceviche we tried was mostly shrimp and ketchup. Couldn't finish it. Service was poor.
We had a group watch the debate 2012 they took great care of us and the wait staff is as good looking as any Fox News girl.
