My hunt for banh mi in Chinatown continues because this place is not it. Got the special $9.25 net and #3 $7.50 net on a quiet late Saturday. The bread was a baguette and crisp on the outside but too dense on the inside. The cold cuts and pate was ok but a bit bland. The pate was good. There was sufficient pickles veg daikon, carrots, cucumber but hardly any cilantro see photo. The sandwich was dry. I’m glad I tried this place but it just confirms why my favorite banh mi place is my favorite UWS.
I tried their special banh mi. I found the bread to be a bit too thick and took away the flavor. It was quite bland overall. Something just didn't hit right. I prefer the spot by grand St / Brooklyn.Food: 3/5
I had a craving for Vietnamese sandwiches for a few weeks and finally found a tiny spot in Manhattan Chinatown that I wanted to try. I ordered the #3 sandwich and a pandan layered cake to go. They both were very satisfying! I ate the entire sandwich even though I was thinking to add some hot sauce over it but it was already delicious. So I didn’t make that move. Go give this small gem a try!
I do not recommend their special banh mi. they are pretty cheap on the meat and cilantro and load it up with daikon which overpowers the flavor of everything else. All i tasted was sour daikon even after removing it. You can judge for yourself from the pictures. Do not ever get their #2 banh ki xiu mai. They gave me two flavorless xiu kai ball for the entire sandwich and once again loaded it with daikon. It takes being cheap to another level.
Delicious bahn mih for $7.5 or more. The bread is always fresh and crunchy, with a good balance of meats and pickled vegetables inside. Several options, including some that are friendlier to the western palate like the #6 with pork shoulder and egg. They also have other Vietnamese side dishes, desserts, and coffee. Takeout only at this location, but it looks like they opened a sit down restaurant where you can order pho as well!
Undoubtedly my absolute favorite banh mi spot! First off, the sandwiches are so affordable in this current market. Where else could you get quality sandwiches for ~$7? And even then, they may not look like it's stuffed to the brim, but they pack in an insane amount of flavor that surpasses those spots that stuff 20 things into one sandwich, especially their #4 with the pate. Would definitely recommend their #4!
I have no clue what these people are talking about in the ratings ... this spot is better than Saigon and all the others. It's the home made bread ...everyone else uses ny hero bread...that bread they have is crispy and light and perfect. I will admit their sandwich is a bit slimmer than the others but I don't care. The sandwich is $8, if I'm still hungry I get another. Maybe I'm just ignorant and never been to Vietnam but that thing is perfect.
Semi-new banh mi spot in NYC and I’m extremely impressed. Chinatown only really has two options and they are okay, so I was excited to try this one. I ordered the #3 for $6.50 and the bread was fresh and the fillings were delicious. Will be my new spot. Cash only
***Notice: Cash Only I appreciate the quick and friendly service here. It had been ages since I stopped by to purchase their bánh mì. The food is still made with love. I ordered the Bánh Mi Cô Út Special Bánh Mì Thịt Nguội Vietnam. The sandwich is filled with pork belly, Vietnamese ham, fried Vietnamese ham, jambon, pate, mayonnaise, cucumber, cilantro, as well as pickled carrot and daikon. The bread was toasted perfectly on the outside and remained fluffy of the inside. Upon first glance, the bánh mì was a beauty, filled neatly with slices of cured meats and packed with fresh ingredients. They don’t skimp on the pickled carrot and daikon here which is a plus. I think the pro move was the addition of Maggi seasoning sauce, rounding out all the flavors. I shared half of the bánh mì with my partner and they usually are not a fan of seasoning sauce on anything but he absolutely loved every component of the sandwich. We both agreed the Bánh Mi Cô Út Special Bánh Mì Thịt Nguội Vietnam is the best bánh mì we have eaten so far during our lives. I arrived around dinner time so most of the desserts like the Bánh Da Lợn made of rice flour, tapioca flour, sugar, coconut milk, pandan, and mung bean were sold out. Luckily, there was one Bánh Bò Nướng made with tapioca flour, sugar, coconut milk, and pandan, and eggs left so I enjoyed that after reheating it at home. These are childhood favorites of mine and I definitely recommend trying them!
Tasty Banh Mi found in the heart of Chinatown. Though it does take a bit longer even if you visit on a slow day. I also wished they added more sauce but that's just a personal preference. Will def visit again!
