Group of 5 on a Saturday afternoon It's such a cute/standout building. Absolutely gorgeous inside with all the plants. The light pink/green contrast gives chill Sunday Barbie vibes. Service was fast and friendly, the server gave great suggestions. Here, they don't have a set server for your table but they check on you often! There were at least 3-4 servers rotating at one time. Our group ordered one of everything off the menu for food and EVERYTHING was good! Particularly anything with fish was excellent! Highly recommend the tacos. I believe the pricing was fair for the quality of food. I will most definitely return in the future.
My girlfriends and I had a great night out here. Yummy nonalcoholic drinks & menu items that were gluten & dairy free on request. Our server was very friendly and made us feel welcome.Food: 5/5
Had an awesome time celebrating a friend's birthday the other night at Bar Cala. The atmosphere & decor is so fun, welcoming, & well laid out. I unfortunately didn't try any food apart from the chips and salsa which were great but everything sounded tasty. The drinks were delicious! El Toxico was delicious and spicy, Cala Jungle Bird was yummy, La Mule was probably my favorite that I tried, & even the regular margarita was great! It turns into a dance club after 9, but I recommend coming early for food & drinks & staying for the after party. Bar Cala is a fun space & I can't wait to visit again soon!
Bar Cala is my new favorite place to meet friends. It has such a relaxed vibe and really friendly staff. The interior is part Wes Anderson and part tropical paradise and the stylish patio makes you feel like you're on vacation. We had skillfully made cocktails and mocktails served in the most beautiful glassware and delicious food that tasted really fresh. Just a really well thought out space and experience.
Really, really cute spot! They have a great patio so it's a wonderful summer spot, but I think people overlook how cute the inside is as well. Perfect for a gloomy day outside, you can feel like you're somewhere warm and vacationy. I haven't tried a lot of the food here, but what I've had is pretty decent. Good guac and chips. Cocktails are good as well, but a limited bar selection. Staff are always friendly and attentive.
I’ve been looking forward to trying Bar Cala for a long time. We arrive, not that busy, awesome! It’s about half full inside. They seat our party of 4 in the dark and ugly corner. Why would your restaurant have an ugly corner? Why would you seat your guests there when tables are open elsewhere? There wasn’t enough water glasses or place settings at the table or even enough chairs. We just felt incredibly neglected. We were slow to receive service, and we were in this weird area watching everyone around us have a good time in this pretty pink light, and we were in the dark! Crazy! Otherwise it was overpriced, and they no longer have a full food menu, just tapas. Chips and guacamole was $13. I wouldn’t recommend Bar Cala, and I won’t be back. I think if every experience here was as it was pictured online it would be super fun, but it isn’t. There are better places in Portland with a similar vibe, beautiful Mexican food and drinks in a cute setting, and this one didn’t live up to the reputation it set. I’d recommend Mestizo, Guero, or Tropicale 10x over compared to this place. Incredibly disappointing.
We were excited to checkout this new spot, Bar Cala, a Latino-owned and operated Latin-inspired bar and restaurant on NE Alberta Street. With their pretty pink walls and their amazing patio it was a really fun experience. The vibe, the music and overall atmosphere felt very fresh and I found myself moving along with the music at times. We did decide to go on a Friday around 6pm so we expected to have a short wait which is exactly what we got. Check them out if you’re looking for something different and refreshing.
Great food, great service, and good music on Saturdays. My girlfriend and I danced to some good Latin tunes. It's definitely hard to find latin places, so we will be coming here again. Do wish they had more of a beer selection. Their mixed drinks are very good though!
This place was on my to do list while spending the day in Portland. It's so pretty in there!!! As soon as I walked in , I was greeted and seated. I was there during happy hour and ordered a few tacos off the happy hour menu. The cocktails were my favorite part. They are executed perfectly with so many flavors that work well together. You can complain about the price but for someone like myself who appreciates a well crafted cocktail, these are worth it. They do have a few options for happy hour but I ordered off the cocktail menu. I had attentive and friendly service the entire time I was there. Everyone working is so sweet and friendly. Overall great vibes. PS: -Kids are allowed before 8pm. -They sometimes have a DJ playing. Check out their Instagram page for events. - Did I mentioned how aesthetically pleasing the place is!? Photo ops at every corner.
We had about 10 people at 4:30pm on a Saturday. The service was very friendly and attentive, hard to find these days in Portland and much appreciated with the big group. The drinks were yummy and gorgeous, give me all the fresh flowers. The food was delicious, you can tell the salsas and tortillas are made fresh. They let us split the bill between all 10 people. 5 stars, keep it up. We love bar Cala!
