Story

The Barnstable High School Performing Arts Center, is located at Barnstable High School, in Barnstable, Massachusetts. It was built in 1999 with the sponsorship of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra. It is one of the largest performing arts centers in New England, seating over 1,400 people.HistoryAs Barnstable High School was being renovated in the late 1990s, the need for a new theater for the school became apparent. The old theater which is called the Knight Hall was only build for a capacity of 760 people (the population of the school at the time) when the school opened in 1959. This led to the inclusion of a new Performing Arts Center into the plans. The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra supported its construction because they wanted to move out of a smaller auditorium in Yarmouth so they could have less shows so they could save money paying the musicians. For their support the symphony got a substantial break in the rental of the facility. The new PAC was built with a capacity of over 1,440 people. John Sullivan the Drama Advisor and National Teachers Hall of Fame member, was instrumental in working with the designers from the start of the project to ensure that the Center would be good for both music and dramatic performances. The stage consists of an orchestra pit with a "scre-drive lift" (the only one in the New England area which holds the orchestra during the drama club's performances. The PAC is also used by the Chatham Woman's Chorale, and other Cape Cod organizations. It also hosts musical performances such as the All Cape and Southeast District music festivals. In 2008, the drama club produced

Barnstable preps young people for higher education by offering programs and classes that attend to the general needs of the student. The nursing, culinary, and child development programs offer hands-on experience and certificates after completion. Overachievers can graduate early, take difficult classes, and start up clubs. I rated three out of five stars after an incident with an insensitive, unprofessional "housemaster". I will be following up with my complaint in the Fall to discuss the problems that occurred, and what would have been a more productive way of speaking to a young person. (Even staff found the situation demeaning and unprofessional). Staff either really enjoy their jobs or hate their jobs. Trust me. A student can tell the difference. Great psychology class, dta class, and outstanding English department. I felt more support from my favorite staff members during my final year at Barnstable. I think growing those relationships come with developing maturity and social skills. The food is awful. Pack a lunch. At least the cafeteria ladies are nice. The school is broken down into groups of people. Find your group right away or you won't fit in at all. The bullying used to be ridiculous but that's with almost every public school. I didn't like my guidance counselor. He acts like a best friend but I never felt comfortable enough to open up to him about how I was feeling. He did help me through one or two challenging situations. Most the time, I felt unheard or disregarded. I know that young people problems seem minor compared to problems adults experience throughout their lives. What adults fail to understand or blatantly disregard is that the issues that arise are the most traumatic for us at that time. We just need someone to talk to who can understand how we feel. I expected to become close with a guidance counselor that has been with me for five years. It felt like he didn't have the time to give me when I was in his office. As I grew more independent, towards the end of my high school years, I often felt held back and talked down to. Almost like my voice held no importance because of my age. That's something that really bothered me. Barnstable is still a public school that helps students succeed academically and grab hold of their future.

There are a couple of teachers whom I truly adore(d), but as said previously, the good is heavily outweighed by the bad. I have teachers who have no interest in the learning experience of their students, no knowledge on how to teach (one teacher in particular is often taught more by the students!), and have no desire to better their students' experiences at the school. My own counselor has no interest in his assigned students and poses only as someone who is there to make you feel bad about yourself. He also has shown no interest in making my school career better for me and does not care if you fail a class. Many staff members believe it is solely the fault of the student if he or she fails, when in fact, many people I know have been unable to successfully work with teachers and are never given any help, despite being asked.

Food is awful. There are some amazing teachers, but they are heavily outnumbered by awful administration and rule sets. Students are average to above average in terms of friendliness and general niceness. Spent 5 years there, gladly not going back because there will be more graduation requirements than students there eventually.

Suspended a student from school for "a small amount of marijuana residue" in his backpack.. What a joke of a high school! The security theater is REAL! OH NO HE HAS SOME WEED DUST AT THE BOTTOM OF HIS PACK.. I believe this is the most hypocritical thing i have ever read due to the fact that some of the teachers and faculty regularly smoke crack cocaine!
