Half a block north of Barrington Recreation Center, here’s more tree lined open space to play baseball, soccer and do whatever within reason! A park for people and dogs, there’s also an enclosed dog run at the lower end of the parking lot allowing space for dog walkers and apartment dwellers to go with fun loving pets! The park is on land from the north end of the VA Center and includes a tribute to our military services. There’s paid parking spaces available and temporary street-side bus staging as permitted, with drivers in attendance. A locked portable toilet may be available for team use and paid parking user’s. Otherwise, public restrooms are available during operating hours at the nearby Barrington Recreation Center, just steps away.
Dog park: Large area but all dirt. A few large trees provide some shade and there are some benches under them. When I was there at 8:45 am on a weekday there were 3 dog walkers, 30 dogs and no other humans. Meh.
Nice dog park with lots of space. Only one large area, nothing for small dogs only that I’m aware of. It’s a mixture of wood chips and dirt, so it can get muddy if it’s wet out. There’s a large paved area that many people used for walking while there dogs played. Several large trees provide plenty of shade. I counted 7 permanent benches and maybe 5 more temporary ones. Water fountain for the dogs with bowls for drinking. Lots of parking spaces and next to several large baseball fields.
Dog park is open and much improved. This is on VA property; there are parking fees but free for veterans, street parking is nearby. Adjacent ball fields with plenty of grass are also used for off-leash play. Many dog sitter/handlers come during the day so there are plenty of dogs to socialize with.
Meh. This park has bad vibes. About 6-7 professional walkers were there the preachy kind that like to approach with unsolicited advice and each had a herd of dogs yet NONE of the dogs played. Yep: 50+ dogs and not a single one at play. And $7 for parking? Boo. Wood chips and dirt terrain is acceptable but for $7 there are better alternatives. We stayed 5 minutes and left. Just. Ew.
They started charging for parking at this park, which is owned by the VA but maintained and funded by LA Parks and Recs through LA taxes. Parking comes out to 7/hour for use of an all-dirt dog park, which the VA makes money on even though taxpayers are maintaining the park.
It is nice. But we wish could have grass there or some agility materials for dogs develop more.
Honestly it's an okay park, big and open. But the field and most of the benches and fences are poorly maintained. Was okay when parking was free but now they attempted to do over the parking lot but messed up one day- theres dog paw prints of the everywhere! On top of that they now want to charge like you for parking there?? It's a dog park! People go there daily!! You can't charge us $7 flat fare for anytime after 5 pm. Rip off!!
Great dog-friendly park with lots of space and parking.
Update. No more free parking. Beautiful oasis in Brentwood. The park features a baseball diamond. A large grass area. Ample parking and a great place to walk around. It is also dog park adjacent. It also can be a nice spot to take a break and eat lunch as there are many trash cans available. There are no restrooms however but it's a close walk to Starbucks if needed.
