I used to be one of the most adamant and vocal supporters of the police and local government. The Bartlett police & court system single-handedly made me lose all respect for either. 

Bartlett police will literally steal cash from your pockets. Their judges are completely unsympathetic, regardless of your circumstances. (I don't know why they even have a judge in the court, in Bartlett you WILL receive the maximum punishment every single time, no matter what the situation. The judge made that clear to the entire court room this afternoon.) And then the city will charge you ludicrous amounts of money in what they call "court costs." (I put that in quotes because I've never seen another town price gouge with their court costs quite like Bartlett.)

I missed a court date for expired tags, and turned myself in to avoid any issues. Pretty minor crime right? Well I showed up for my new court date today, and I'm looking at paying north of $700.

My advice is to stay out of this po-dunk little town. There's nothing here worth even risking an encounter with the police, because I can guarantee you that it will be a massive pain in the neck.
