We were in town overnight and thought we would check out Basil. The prices were a little high for Thai, but we decided to splurge. We could not have been more disappointed in a restaurant. The portion sizes were small and overpriced. The red curry was severely lacking in flavor. The veggie delight entree had few veggies. It seems that all we were paying for was the hype. On the plus side, our service was great.

The food is delicious and fresh. I felt rushed however. The server took away everything on the table, including my knife, while I was still eating, asked for desert orders and brought the check. I was allowed to keep my wine glass and finish my food; then she whisked that plate away. It's not that we were lingering. It was about 9 pm on a Friday night and we'd been there maybe an hour. I'd enjoy the food more without "here's your hat and there's the door."

While the food was tasty the service was horrible. Showed up on the Thursday night at 6:45 waited 50 minutes to be seated. Went with our 5 year old daughter and two-year-old niece and asked the waitress to bring their food out first she acknowledged us we then proceeded to wait for our dinner for 1 hour meanwhile she did not bring our kids food first as requested she said she didn't know if she could or not which was very odd. Over the course of an hour and 45 minutes our waitress came to us twice did not fill up our water glasses and gave us our dessert without silverware we have to wait another 5 to 10 minutes for that. I understand it was restaurant week but the restaurant wasn't even fully capacity.

Good food. Did not dine in but the ambiance looked great, looking in from the pickup counter! Friendly and quick employees.

I've certainly recanted my 5-star review from years back. I've been a long-time customer of Basil, and I've recently been very disappointed. It seems the newest servers are untrained and unqualified (of course the waiters who've been there a while are still great as usual). My final tipping point was on my last occasion when I was denied more than a half cup of rice for my entire curry dish. I was asked to pay for rice to take home, but I'd already paid my bill... Is this a new policy or just a bad waiter? It is so easy to nail the basics: (1) Appease customers and (2) keep the water topped off. I would also love to see Basil use recyclable to-go containers and ditch the plastic bags. The food is still great and quite addicting.
