We have done more than a few projects with Mike and all went over smoothly and the end results are stunning. During each project, Mike was in constant contact every day, and would stop by the house almost every day to chat with me and make sure the work was progressing. When necessary, he obtained the permits from city hall and was here when each inspector came by. There was no downtime for inspections or permits. He listened to my input and the projects turned out just how my wife and I wanted. Every sub-contractor he brought in to do each stage was professional and on-time. I would highly recommend Mike to anyone else needing similar services. In fact, a good friend has hired him to do work at his house, and I've given Mike's contact info to two other friends.

Michael Baum did a kitchen remodel for us about two years ago. It proved to be more of a structural challenge than anyone anticipated, but he and his firm made up for the delay with an alternative plan (extending the roofline to accommodate cabinetry) at cost. He and the office staff kept us updated on any cost overruns and itemized every expense and cost for our review and approval. He was patient and professional throughout the process. I highly recommend Baum Construction. He worked well with my designer and had wonderful subcontractors.

When choosing to work with a general contractor in the Long Beach CA area, not surprisingly I had a number of contractors to choose from. For someone remodeling something as important as my home, I don't want to go with just any remodeling contractor - especially one that doesn't seem particularly organized from the outset and/or one that appears to be operating his business entirely out of his truck. For several reasons, I decided to give Michael Baum (of Baum Construction & Development) a try. And, what I've found is that Michael is the exact general contractor I was hoping to find. I've been working with Michael on various projects now for the past four years. Some of the things I believe he excels in are: BID PRESENTATIONS - His bid presentations are professional in appearance and very well organized. He has data to back up everything. ETHICAL & FAIR - Some general contractors will give a low-ball bid to get the job - then tell you that one or more parts of the project is/are going to cost more - sometimes a lot more. And, if you don't go a along with it, they can halt work mid-project. Ask yourself what kind of bind would that leave you in... Michael guarantees to hit his bid budget - which is a comfort factor all in itself. He'll guarantee the budget on change orders, too (I had 18 change orders on my last remodel). Michael tells me that some of the homeowners who've chosen to go with another contractor's lower bid price end up telling Michael they spent more by project completion than they would have if they had chosen Michael in the first place. Too late for them, but not for you. And, to his credit, Michael has been reasonable & fair with me on every project we've worked on. RESPONSIVE - In the four years I've been working with Michael, and I've never experienced a situation where he wasn't timely in getting back to me - or in getting something done. Rather, my experience is that he tends to be proactive in contacting me - before I've thought of contacting him. PROFESSIONAL CREW - Michael's got a seasoned crew of professionals to get every aspect of the demo and subsequent remodeling done right. He's even got a crew that cleans the entire house - not just the project area - at project completion. RESULTS - Here's where the rubber-meets-the-road. The finished product always looks great - and often get compliments. THE CHERRY ON TOP - I've come to know Michael for creating a Wow! experience somewhere along the way during the remodeling process. But, I don't want to let-the-cat-out-of-the-bag on this unique experience. Michael is a pleasant person to deal with, and I enthusiastically recommend him for your custom home construction or home remodeling needs. By the way, he wrote the book on how to select a great general contractor (It's called "Sawdust to Satisfaction" and it's on Amazon & Kindle).
