The long boardwalk onto the Pier is hardly accommodation for walker aids, as it is very rough to navigate . Boat tours on the Saginaw River are free by previous reservation. They are kindly underwritten by local business. The ride downriver through downtown Bay City passes the recreational and working waterfront. A hostess ("Voice of the River") announces points of interest and history on the way down. The tour ends at the mouth of the river at Saginaw Bay with a "man-overboard" exercise that reverses direction and recovers a PFD.
