Story

Started in 1988 by Gary and Zell Dwelley, Beach Break Cafe has become a essential part of the Oceanside community. Located off the historic Highway 101 that runs along the California coast, halfway between downtown Los Angeles and the Mexican border, this surf-inspired diner serves American fare with a California twist. People taking a break from the beach or those who want a pre-ocean meal flock here for the moist, cinnamon-laced coffee cake drizzled with frosting and the giant and inventive four-egg omelets and scrambles. While dining they can check out the colorful surfboards, surfboard-inspired ceiling fan and surf photos that decorate this breakfast-and-lunch-only spot. The Banana Crunch French Toast is a favorite, dipped in honey bunches of oats for the crunch and then topped with bananas and a healthy dose of whipped cream. The wait can be long on weekends, but the Dwelley's set up an honor-system coffee station.

FRESH, FRESH, FRESH DELICIOUS FOOD! This is unlike any diner food I have EVER had! I was pleasantly surprised by the heaping portions and affordable price. This is definitely not your average.. sausages were longer and more seasoned than your typical, the hash browns were fluffy on the inside and crispy down to the last bite, the eggs were perfectly cooked AND it comes with TWO LARGE and delicious biscuits. So grateful to live on the other side of the country.. I'd never make breakfast again!

I came here a while back with my parents because they were visiting Cali. We came here because we wanted to eat at a local breakfast joint. This was a great choice. Awesome food, serving sizes are good, friendly staff and the whole theme of the restaurant is very cool. I would definitely come here again

Awesome breakfast spot. Have eaten here on numerous occasions before becoming a guide. The coffee cake should be a national treasure. It is to die for. It is always steaming hot when it hits the table. Breakfast entrees come in large portions. Many entrees can be shared by two people. My all-time favorite is the corned beef hash. Great sized pieces of shredded Irish corned beef and potatoes, as well as chopped onions. Add some over easy eggs on top and you have breakfast perfection. Their juices are fresh squeezed too. They always have a line, so be ready for it. They have honor system, self serve, coffee for while you wait. The decor is all surf boards and pics as well as early skateboard memorabilia. Staff is super friendly and they deliver awesome customer service. You have to try it.

I normally shun busy places like this, but this was totally worth the deserved wait for a table. The food was outstanding. The quality of the dishes were matched by the friendliness and attentiveness of the wait staff. Big smiles and a cheerful demeanor. Well done. Portions big enough to satisfy a bearcub and maybe his hungry little sister too. The food came out quick, especially considering how big and busy this place is.

The perfect blend of breakfast and lunch on this menu. Service is fantastic, the employees here do a great job with customer flow. Our brunch was delicious and we will be back soon! Thank you for the wonderful dining experience. And the amazing coffee cake!
