I sent my 3-4 year old son to this place for one month. Let’s just say they are not equipped to handle an energetic boy. This place is great if you know your kid is well behaved and very independent to do their own thing, that way the teachers do not have to do anything at all. The reason I write this is because that’s how I felt was what was going on at this specific YMCA. They were either A. Not wanting to put the time and effort in watching my son as their job description details or B. They were just being racist towards my son as he is an Asian child. There’s only been 3 reviews of this place that are a year older and more. Because of the experience that I saw my son receive I would have to totally agree with Michele Love, although as I stated in the very beginning of my review if your child has been in a public day care environment from day one then I’m sure your child will be fine. I bring that up because of reviewer Ally Hollenbach’s review. Assuming they won’t be hurt due to the teachers not paying full attention to the other children that would be attacking your child. I failed to mention the first day I was at the school to drop off my son, I saw two boys throwing fists at each other with no teacher in sight. I was a bit bewildered by that but thought its boys being boys. Until later on my son came home with bruises, a burn mark and scratches during different days and they could not tell me how that happened. I will also share that my son does have his moments, but what 3-4 year toddler does not? So again I could write more about this school and if you do have questions or concerns on taking your child here, feel free to contact me regarding the matter. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Stay away from this place. Some of the teachers lack patience and mistreat the children by speaking to them rudely and hurting them physically by grabbing the child's arm so hard that it left a bruise. They also have cameras in the building that don't work. I removed my son when I notice he had finger bruises on his arm and my son told me Chelsea squeezed his arm hard. The "teacher" was put on leave, the police and DHS got involved. However, because we live in a corrupt sick world a child has to be severely hurt in order for losers like Chelsea to be criminally prosecuted. Keep your child safe and away from this place. You can also call the state of Oregon childcare division to check complaints received on this center and others.

My son has been attending the Y since he was just 18 months old and he is now in Pre-K. His teacher Chelsea is awesome with patience like no other. I cannot even imagine spending every day with 20 or so 4 year olds! The curriculum for each age group is well defined and appropriate for their age. He comes home every day full of enthusiasm, excited to share all the great things he learned. Originally he was attending this location because it was down the street from my office. I have since switched employers and drive several extra miles to take him to the Y because I trust that he is receiving top notch care and I know that he is happy at school. We plan to keep him here until he is ready to start Kindergarten. If we could continue using them for after school care, we would, but he will eventually have to move to the YMCA closer to our home and his future elementary school. There is one negative review here. I am shocked and honestly I don't believe it for a second. The state of Oregon has ZERO listed complaints for this facility. Always do your research but don't always believe everything you read. Some people have a hard time accepting that 3 and 4 year olds can be little troublemakers and little daredevils. Kids get bruises, misbehave, and sometimes make poor choices. The teachers at the Y handle these situations appropriately and with love and care. I would absolutely recommend this facility to any parent looking for good, affordable, trustworthy childcare.

We have a 5 year old in kindergarten who has gone here for several years and the kids in her kindergarten class are doing addition, subtraction, and most of them can read and write as well and it's only December. There are about 12 kids in her class and about 11 of those 12 have been going here for years along with ours and I truly believe that the program they have there has enabled these children to be at a first grade level while they are only 3-4 months into their kindergarten year. The staff is friendly, and fun with the children, but also firm in a kind way that helps the kids learn how to interact with others appropriately. When it comes to other people taking care of your kids during the day it's so easy to scrutinize and criticize, but at the end of the day you have to look at it from a larger view and know that no one will take care of your kids as well as you do, but if the kids are happy, are learning, and well cared for 99% of the time, what more can you ask for? We are very scrutinizing and a 4 year window of having a child at this YMCA is a big enough time frame to know that it is absolutely wonderful and if we ever had any more we would let this YMCA take care of them in a heartbeat and we highly recommend it to our friends and family.
