Story

Internationally-acclaimed Bellus Academy® has been recognized annually by Modern Salon since 2010 for Excellence in Education. Dedicated to graduating salon and spa “ready” industry professionals our team of educators delivers quality education in collaboration with industry leaders. Our programs are nationally accredited by NACCAS and will prepare you for a new career in the Salon or Spa industry in less than a year. Three of our campuses are located in beautiful, sunny San Diego County recognized as “America’s Finest City" and our newest campus is located in Manhattan, Kansas known as the "Little Apple" of America's Heartland.

We offer courses in Cosmetology, Advanced Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, Massage Therapy, Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP), Spa Nail Technician, Makeup Artistry, as well as Bellus Best in Business training for spa and salon professionals. I was a student in there very first Makeup 602 program, an intensive in depth program which covers various makeup skills including, but not limited to, color matching, airbrush, special fx, makeup for Print and Film, mature makeup, and some hair styling.The instructors, Lily and Breanne, have a combined 25+ years of experience between the 2 of them working in bridal, print , commercial, film, and fashion. Their knowledge and lessons extend further then just makeup techniques, they also provide you with inside knowledge of the business side of the makeup industry. It was a fun and positive environment which I left feeling incredibly confident in my newly acquired skill set.

I'm currently a student in the master makeup 602 Program and my experience has been great , the teachers are really nice and very knowledgeable about all things makeup , they are teaching us all the things we need to know to become successful makeup artist. Anyone whose thinking about becoming a makeup artist should definitely check out the master makeup program at bellus , you learn everything from special effects to bridal so it expands what you know about makeup and makes you better.

If I could leave zero stars I would. I made an appointment 2 weeks ago to have my hair and nails done for my birthday party. I was very excited and wanted to look great for my party.  Things took a turn for the worse... I received a call 1 hour before my scheduled appointment stating that nobody would be available to get me ready. Apparently nobody showed up for work or they overbooked and decided to leave me out to dry. I was so disappointed and still have not received an apology call. I'm not looking for any compensation but I feel my story needed to be shared.

I was a previous  student @ Bellus Academy National City, and I REGRET enrolling there. If you are looking to better your education & start a career, don't come to this campus . This school has no structure, it's over populated & MOST of the educators are unprepared, lazy, unmotivated, rude ,& unprofessional . They are understaffed & hire anyone to fill in the hole. I tried transferring when I saw what a terrible mistake I did by enrolling to this campus , but it was too late to transfer bc I would end up losing hours and money. Shortly after I graduated Their “Campus Director” was fired, and escorted  out of her office in front of everyone in school. They hired her without her knowing anything about the industry in the first place. Then the REGIONAL DIRECTOR got fired. A lot of people know that there is intimate relationships between staff and students, yet nothing is being disciplined. There is drama between staff themselves, and the vibe every morning was just poisoning. All my girlfriends and I  hated that campus , and I remember that phenomenal relief when I clocked out for the last time. It’s very sad to say all of this , but I don’t want ANYONE to go through what we went through. Time wasted, money wasted , and energy dragged down for 11 months. I am happy to say I am doing great in the beauty industry now, thanks to me persevering. But if I can recommend you something about beauty school , look into to it before you sign your money away. The admissions  coordinator will just sale you the program. BUT what they don’t tell you, is that they don’t come out of their little office all day long , so they don’t know anything that is going on in the campus. This school has about 3 lawsuits that I know of, and I’m sure more to come. A few educators will be leaving in 2018, so like always , that school will be a a mess. Best piece of advice .... ask current students or graduates about their experience before you sign a contract. Now, if this post isn’t enough .. try to find more STUDENT REVIEWS on Fb, Yelp, or Google , I will guarantee you , all you will find are mostly  5 star CLIENT reviews of people who got their HAIR done there. That’s why their review are so good.. bc it’s not they students reviewing them, it’s the clients . Which should be the opposite away around.
