Ben Taub Hospital

Story

Ben Taub Hospital is a hospital located in Houston, Texas within the Texas Medical Center. Having opened in May 1963, the hospital is owned and operated by the Harris Health System and is staffed by the faculty, residents, and students from Baylor College of Medicine.Ben Taub is a Level I trauma center, one of three in Southeast Texas, the others being nearby Memorial Hermann Hospital and University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Kenneth Mattox, a trauma surgeon named Best Doctor in America five times, is the head of the trauma department. With 586 licensed beds, it is one of the busiest trauma centers in the United States, caring for over 106,000 emergency patients during its last fiscal year (March 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011). Ben Taub is also the only hospital in Houston with a psychiatric emergency room open 24 hours a day. The hospital is named after Ben Taub (1889–1982), a real estate developer and businessman whose extensive behind-the-scenes philanthropic efforts helped transform Houston.HistoryThe original Ben Taub hospital opened in May 1963 and was closed when the current Ben Taub opened on January 12, 1990. The hospital district intended to renovate the old Ben Taub and have two new additional hospitals opened, but the hospital district encountered financial difficulties in the 1990s. In 2012, the district announced that it will begin renovating the old Ben Taub for $38 million.

You can't complain about the waiting time when it's a county hospital. Don't like it? Pay for some damn insurance!! I came in with a broken ankle and got better treatment than memorial city memorial hermann! The orthopedic staff is the best! And I'm actually looking forward to my surgery tomorrow. So great job Ben Taub!! 😊

OMG, just don't go there, I swear to God, they will make shut up, and you don't have saying or decision in every thing that they want to do. They are aggressive and disrespectful of the patient and his family. they will separate the patient from his family and they will push the family out the room. Beside of that, don't trust their diagnosis and treatment. I mean this is a government facility after all, and who are you to ask them to explain the things to you or saying no, or complaining , basically in that facility you have no freedom at all. Take it or leave it. This type of hospitals exist in third world country, not USA.Bad bad bad culture and bad system. I ran out of that hospital and great I did. I went to other non - government facility and I felt very comfortable and every thing went smooth. Very glad and proud of doing so. Don't settle for less it is your health and life , don't throw them away.

I was under the impression that this hospital would provide the bare minimum care and support for their patients, since it is a state hospital. But after witnessing the excellent quality of care provided by the physicians and support staff as they care for my sister in ICU, I can absolutely say that couldn't be further from the truth. I was less than optimistic about my sister's outcome, no one could figure out what was causing so many critical issues to occur but somehow, some way they did it!!! My family was on the verge of making funeral plans a few days ago. This morning, my sister is sitting up, very alert and about to start physical therapy. Thank you Ben Taub, I am thoroughly impressed and happy to write this review. More than anything, I'm glad to say I had the wrong idea about how well someone could expect to be treated here. You work miracles!

Tried explaining my symptom ms and the the fact I have previously been diagnosed with 2 autoimmune diseases. Me being in excruciating pain meant nothing to them and I was told to sit in a chair for well over 7 hours, which made me feel worse than when I came in. I've had a throbbing headache for 7 days now. After being called 4 deprecate times by nurses and asked the same questions over and over I asked if I could please go to the car and lay down as my pain was getting worse and was told no. I asked since there weren't that many patients waiting if there was an approximate wait time and I was told,'forever.'
