I've shopped at "Chippains" grocery store (in Lemont) for decades (at least 30+ years) and it was sad to see Chippains close it's doors.  Berkots is very similar to Chippains, and is a great family-owned grocery store, the deli is one of the nicest I've seen, they carry a lot of items that most other grocery stores (Jewel, etc.) do not stock and do not carry, so when I am looking for hard to find sauces or spices, or special items, this is the place that I go!  The produce is very fresh, and this is the place that I go to for fresh produce (at good prices) and the meat department is not bad (prices are a bit high) but when they have sales, the sales prices are usually good, and this is the best place to go in Lockport for fresh produce, and high-quality meats.  The staff are not bad, but there is one "trailer trash" older lady that doesn't like to give out grocery bags (or double bag groceries) at this store, but other than that, the staff are usually friendly and nice!  It's always good to check out their fresh produce and shop the sales!
