I took my students here for a special field trip and they participated in the Living History Program. They learned what life was like for children back in the 1800's. The whole experience was completely immersive and the kids had so much fun doing "chores"! They did laundry on washboards, ground wheat into flour, churned butter, baked biscuits in an outdoor oven, made toys like button spinners, a leavings doll and sewed a pouch for marbles. They also learned how to condition a saddle and they even made wooden crates. It was a marvelous experience made even better by the wonderful staff and volunteers. Thank you, Katy Bartosh for an unforgettable field trip! You and your staff are impressive and we can't wait to come back for S'mores and Stories on December 9th!
The Bernhard Working Farm is a delight to visit... Always. It never gets old to listen to the docents speak of 1800 lifestyles. Married women were dilegent as homemakers. Each day was set aside for a particular task. There always was desserts! Children of each age had their tasks to do..especially on a farm. People were respectful of one another.
Limited hours but well worth making the time for. The staff had the most interesting historical tidbits about the building and the items within. Definitely recommended for anyone interested in history, especially gold rush and post gold rush eras
This lovely museum is full of artifacts from the Victorian era, and the docents are very friendly and knowledgable.

Stagecoach and other pieces of early transportation in the historical gold country which is Auburn Ca. Most of these have been restored And are generously on loan from the Auburn Native Sons of Golden West.
The place was recommended by the staff of another Placer County Museum. We visit on Sunday 10/13/2019. What a pleasant surprise! I wish more people know and visit this hidden gem. Our docent Annie was INCREDIBLE! So knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the place. History buffs especially those interested in Victorian era would be very pleased. Highly recommend to everyone!
The volunteer tour guides were great and very informative. I wished that I had more time to see everything here and not just the inside of the home. The furnishings are Victorian era but not the original owners. Worth a visit.
My 2nd and 3rd grade students loved it! The head docent Katie was awesome!
Great if you love learning about history. It’s such a fantastic experience and Auburn is just a fantastic little town. Check out the other museums too if you have the time! It’s a great learning experience.
