This store is a big improvement over the Waldbaum's that used to occupy the spot for years and years.  They have a good variety of merchandise and they are trying hard to meet the needs of the diverse community of Great Neck, with a decent selection of sushi-to-go, other ethnic specialties, and a newly expanded Kosher meat, fish, and bakery section.  They have a vast array of beer and craft beers, hard cider, etc.  Produce is just okay, nothing special, although there are often good sale prices on certain items.  They also have a nice selection of seasonal flowers and garden items at competitive prices (hanging baskets for $9.99 & $12.99, flats of annuals for $11.99).  They mail a circular to your home with a 5% coupon for seniors on Tuesday & Wednesday, and they give credit for bringing your own bags, which is a plus.  On the minus side:  no self-checkout,  minimal customer service, cashiers who don't seem to care about customers, and parking is tough at certain times of day, even though there is a big parking lot.  Given the choices of supermarkets in Great Neck, I'd put this one in the middle:  better than Associated, not as good quality as North Shore Farms (but much bigger selection and lower prices).   Also, walking distance from the train station so it's very convenient.

I used to work at best market and I have to say it was good for the most part. With that said, I disliked working with former store manager Michael Guardado. I disliked the way he speaks to me when he gets upset and when upper management comes in and checks around the store. He tells me really dumb stuff for me to do and that what really irks me.

Good store. Horrible checkout. The 10 items or less checkout is frequently closed. Months later no improvement in service.  There is no one even available at customer service.  Be prepared to wait on long lines.

I avoid this place at all costs even though I live within walking distance. The produce , prepared foods and meats are never worth buying.  This place has no self checkout and just one 10 items or fewer line. Also never many cashiers open. I stop in when I really need an item. Today was that day. 2pm on a Monday afternoon and express line had to be 15 plus people long. ONce again I walked in and walked out. I dont know why I even bother and I assume it will be at least a couple of months again before I waste my time
