We have stayed at the Golden Key Best Western every year for the last 8 years.  We have family living at the Lake of the Pines and we find it very convenient to stay at this Best Western facility.  The rooms are always clean, have refrigerators for keeping snacks and beverages cool.  The bathroom and vanity areas are well designed and comfortable to use.  The rooms are air conditions and easy to regulate the temperature.  The beds are comfortable and have plenty of pillows and blankets.  It was noticed that the pillows were variable in softness or firmness.  We slept very comfortably.  The rooms were very quiet and well insulated from activities outside.

Very nice accommodations. very soft bed, so this might be an issue for some. I found it very comfortable. The only issue I had with the room was with the shower.  The water temperature kept fluctuating during my shower, and sometimes to the extreme (cold and hot).  Personally, I didn't care for the scent of the shampoo and conditioner.  It was in a convenient dispenser, so I don't know what the brand was.  These are minor issues, in my opinion. Overall, I would definitely stay again when I return to the area to explore the town of Auburn.

I am a traveling service technician. I spend 250-300 days a year on the road so I have a lot of hotel experience. Best Western Golden Key is such a wonderful hotel. The staff is friendly and well trained. The breakfast is very good, great selections. The rooms are comfortable and the beds are comfy. I slept very well.

1)  The room smelled.  2) Limited selection for complimentary breakfast.  Not as nice as other locations.  3)  Room is very noisy...not sure if single pane windows, but noisy due to I80, 4)Absolutely furious that we paid for the rooms with POINTS, to later discover a $150.00 "HOLD" on our bank account.  First off, the $150.00 "HOLD" exceeds the $116.xx cost of the room, and when I called the front desk, I was told the charge is essentially a deposit and will be removed in 2 to 5 DAYS!!!!  The kicker is we were told when we checked in the credit card would only be used for incidentals.  There was NO MENTION of a $150 deposit being charged to our card.  As it takes some time, and quite a few night stays to accumulate enough points to "pay" for a room, there would be a record SOMEWHERE if we were the type of customer that tore up a room, destroyed property, etc.  As we have done NONE of those things, we should not be charged a deposit that will not be refunded for 2 to 5 days!!!!!  I can assure you, we will NEVER stay at this facility again!!!!!

This is the second time we've stayed at this hotel and it's been fantastic both times. The staff is always helpful and friendly, the rooms are immaculate and the experience wonderful. It's walking distance to several good restaurants and has been a welcome oasis on our travels. Highly recommended!!
