A Brief History of Beth El
Beth El Temple was founded in Harrisburg in 1926. It combines traditional Jewish observances with the modern spiritual needs of a rapidly changing world. From modest beginnings, Beth El has grown to become the largest synagogue in Harrisburg and in Central Pennsylvania. Beth El, a traditional, egalitarian, and fully participatory congregation, is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
Over 80 years have passed and we at Beth El Temple continue to share a sense of community in which our members have the opportunity to thrive and grow within Jewish traditions and Jewish knowledge along with an enveloping sense of belonging to a vibrant Jewish synagogue family.
