Everything was very good. Service was good. We had a window seat so we could people watch. Arrived after the peak time and the place was less crowded and more quiet. It is a small place. They take reservations but we just walked in off the street and we were seated immediately. The calamari and the Bay shrimp appetizers were very good. The fresh sea bass was cooked to perfection and the Crab Louie salad was more than filling. This is a must place to eat.
We called ahead to make a reservation and we’re fortunate enough that they could accommodate 7 people on short notice. We were even delayed due to bus reroutes but they held our reservation after I called them. Server was nice and the atmosphere is quaint. Everyone enjoyed their meal but we did have one person who received their entree much later than everyone else and we had to bring this to the attention of 2 different staff members. I think this is a result of the staffing shortage since it appeared that there was only one waiter for the establishment. I had the salmon piccata. The salmon was a huge portion and cooked perfectly. Also their house Chardonnay was a nice compliment to the salmon.
Super friendly atmosphere. Staffs treat customers like family and also treat each other very nice which is so important to me. The pasta was very big and couldn’t finish it. Wish I had more appetite because it was delicious! For oysters we had east and west coast but the west coast which were half the size were so much more tastier and rich! Recommend west coast obviously hehe Everything on the menu looked incredibly delicious. They didn’t have desert menu but kindly recommended a restaurant nearby. Thank you for your incredible food!!
Great service, beautiful view, and exceptional cuisine! Definitely try the fresh oysters, and ask about the local catches. It wasn't busy while I was there, but I expect they're just as friendly when the crowds show up. I have become accustomed to exorbitant prices for good food in San Francisco, but Betty Lou's was very reasonably priced. This should make your list of places to eat in North Beach... in San Francisco!
Small place, tremendous family feel to it, everyone working there was excellent on the customer service side, helpful, made great recommendations and then the food was perfect. I had the Cioppino, and man was that bowl LOADED with fresh mussels, clams, crab, shrimp, scallops… and the broth… perfect. Just enough tomatoes and garlic!Recommended dishesTomato Cream, Classic Cioppino, Fried Calamari Ala Ray
Beautiful seafood and wonderful service! My experience at Betty Lou’s was hospitality realized; a warm welcome at the door, great banter, and fantastic service. We started our meal with a dozen East Coast oysters blue point and a half-dozen West Coast oysters Miyagi, which came with strong horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemons, and Tabasco or Tapatio on request. For our mains, I had the branzino special, served with a lemon butter sauce with capers, some garlic sauteed carrots and Brussels sprouts, and a side of scalloped potatoes, while my aunt had the seafood risotto clams, mussels, prawns, sea scallops, bay shrimp, calamari and my uncle had Mike’s wok crab whole cracked crab, scallions, cilantro, garlic, ginger, soy sauce. Absolutely everything was cooked beautifully! We had a great time chatting with our server and the owner, who also recommended great spots just down the street for dessert and coffee. While some might see Betty Lou’s described as “old-school” and think “outdated”, I’d invite people to see this restaurant as classic, unpretentious, and straightforward. Yes, there are restaurants with more modern, or contemporary takes on seafood, but I really enjoyed that Betty Lou’s took the time and the care to make sure that seafood is the undeniable focus and that it’s done well. I’ll definitely be back!
Here will be my favorite spot ever in SF! food was amazing service amazing too, I went after reading the reviews, and it was much better than I expected. It's more than enough for one person, and the house wine goes so well with the Cioppino. I think I will come back to San Francisco again because of this!
This has got to be one of the best pasta I ever had in US! Perfectly cook all Dante pasta, all the seafood were timed perfectly and the sauce for the pesto and tomato cream seafood linguine was amazing! Mike's walk crab did not disappoint. Wasn't expecting the strong ginger taste so this was a refreshing change from the typical garlic butter that we are accustomed to. Very Asian inspired dish and I can taste the shallots, green onion, ginger, soy sauce, onions, chilly flakes and sesame oil. Well done, I wished they serve coffee and dessert tho : Ps: we love Betty, very down to earth lady and cheerful!
Loved dining here at Betty Lou's. She actually works the floor so she has that personal touch which is really rare in San Francisco restaurants these days. The food is wonderful and the oysters are delicious and fresh. The wait staff is helpful and fun! There is a City Parking structure a block away. Highly recommend!Recommended dishesHappy Hour West Coast Oysters, Boston Clam Chowder, Crab Louie, Linguine with Clams, Seafood Risotto, Fettuccine with Smoked Salmon
Seafood linguine in red cream sauce was tasty except for the scallops for some reason. Atmosphere was quaint and felt more like a diner than a restaurant. Service was good but service took a while for a table of six.Food: 4/5
