I just moved from New York where controlled medications are taken very seriously. All prescriptions are filled electronically and monitored to the highest of standards. This makes it impossible for people to doctor & pharmacy shop. After moving to Beaufort I have had the most unpleasant experiences. Filling my prescribed medications have left me stressed out and distraught at the way these people treat patients. This store is the worst. If you need to fill any sort of controlled medication DO NOT visit. On a Sunday afternoon when pharmacies close early the pharmacist by the name Layla decided to tell me she didn't feel comfortable filling my prescription. At one point I explained to her that I had been having to cut my capsules in half to get my prescribed dosage and the reason why one needed to be filled a few days early as I had problems the previous month with the first doctor and had to have NY doctor send the other script. This was what my doctor in NY told me to do. Layla barked back at me and stated that "This is a controlled substance and that I was never to open the capsules and consume". I realized that I was being judged and that she thought I was abusing my medication. I calmly expressed that my doctor is the one who suggested it. I took back my prescriptions and told her I would go elsewhere as this girl didn't have a rational bone in her body and realized she had already made up her mind about me before I could finish explaining to her my predicament. As she handed back my scripts she handed me with them a piece of paper with the "medication information" on it and I immediately opened it up to read the own company says " • Capsules: If you have trouble swallowing capsules, open your VYVANSE capsule and pour all the powder into yogurt, water, or orange juice. This disturbing to me that somebody could act so self-righteous and judgmental with opinions when the medication guide clearly states right there..... it is safe and advises you can break apart the capsules. This following month I was determined I was not going to let her get away with treating people this way. And she refused to fill the medication at all bc "she didn't feel comfortable." I have been on this medication for 15 years and on this dosage for over 7. It is not a pharmacist job to decide what is morally or ethically right when my medical records show this to be what is beneficial to me. I never had this sort of ill treatment when living in New York. I have never been made to feel like a toothless drug seeking addict. I am disgusted with this woman's behavior and have filed a complaint with the corporate bi-lo offices. I also might mention I recorded the entire conversation and sent to the powers that be for Bi-lo. This will eliminate and "he said-she said" and show that this woman deserves disciplinary and should be forced to take some sort of class to learn some humility. Layla I hope you are reading this. You need to realize that a simple phone call to my doctor would alleviate any wrongdoing if you thought filling my scripts would jeopardize your career. This woman took no such action and should come down off her high horse and back to reality. Layla you aren't much more than a judgmental glorified pill counter. If your profession wants to gain more respect from the community then you should learn to treat your patients and community with the respect they deserve. You are not doctors and should not have the authority to make unreasonable decisions that could potentially harm people. People like you have no business working in the medical field.
