Crappy customer service, and what a MASSIVE waste of our time! My wife recently decided she wanted a bike. Knowing nothing about bikes, she went to the Bike Shack in her old home town of Dubuque (we now live in Cedar Rapids), and the young man working there narrowed down a bicycle that would be a good fit for her based on her usage goals. She ordered the bike, which would have to be shipped in and assembled by the staff before she could come pick it up and pay for it. That's understandable. We came to Dubuque a week later when the bike was due to be ready. The young man who helped her narrow down the bike (and who had ordered and assembled it for her) went into the back to look for it, and couldn't find it. Turns out, someone else had removed the "hold for customer" tag from it, and sold it to someone else. This is the first thing that pissed me off that day. We now wasted THREE HOURS of our time and gas money to drive from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque (and back) for a bike that we were told would be ready by the weekend, it was sold out from under us to someone else who walked in. Not once did we hear even the word "sorry" from anyone working there during our time in the store. Far from it. No one expressed an ounce of remorse. It was basically, "Yeah, looks like your bike got sold to someone else." Another guy working there offered us another bike: "I know this one isn't $350 like the one you want, but it'll serve the same purpose. It's only $495. Is that in your price range?" They not only showed us little-to-no sympathy for the fact that they wasted our time and gas money, but now they're offering a bike that's $145 MORE than the one that was supposed to be ready for us?? What the hell was he thinking? I was so damn furious, that I had to walk outside and wait so that I wouldn't make a scene and hurt somebody. When my wife came out, she told me that the guy who tried to sell her the more expensive bike had found, in the store, another of the same model bike she ordered, but instead of the black-and-purple color scheme that she ordered, it was green. One of her favorite colors is purple...which is why she had them order the purple bike! The guy made some smartass comment about how "The color of the bike won't affect how it rides." Are my wife and I insane to think that if she's spending $350 on a goddamn bicycle, she might as well like the way it looks? And is that any kind of remark to make to a paying customer? I was so angry, I was about to go back in there, but my wife was able to diffuse me. What angered me most was that I felt like the guy had probably assumed he could now be more condescending to my wife because her husband had gone outside, and if there's one thing I can't tolerate, it's when a man talks down to a woman. So it was probably a good thing I was outside when he said that. I really wanted to drop them and look elsewhere, but my wife was tired of looking for bicycles, and is more forgiving than I am, so she asked them to order and assemble the same bike for her AGAIN, and we eventually made another 3-hour round-trip to Dubuque AGAIN to pick it up. Oh well. At least my wife likes her bike so far. So it wasn't a total loss. Personally, I'm just trying to forget about it and move on, but so far, every time I look at her bike it reminds me of the crappy service and utter lack of empathy we received in their store. My wife noticed that they stuck a "Bike Shack" sticker with their logo on her $350 bike, so she peeled it off to avoid future reminders of the experience. Later, she called to explain her experience to a manager, who also showed zero empathy, and said, "Well, you didn't pre-pay for the bike." My wife was NEVER told that she could (or should) pre-pay for the bike. Here's another funny note: The first time we decided to go for a ride, I noticed that her bike has a more complicated gear-shifting system than I'm used to. I asked her how it worked, and how she shifts it, and she replied, "Um, I don't know. They didn't really tell me anything." Delightful.

Great experience and super friendly. I had no idea how to shop for a bike. I gave a price range and was so impressed that there was no attempt to up-sell. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. This was not the case at another local bike store I went to, that tried to double my price range. I came back to Bike Shack to make my purchase, and will encourage friends and family to do the same.

On a vacation, I realized I forgot the front skewer for my bike wheel. 3 "bike shops" later, I found The Bike Shop! What a relief to find a knowledgeable, friendly, well stocked bike shop. Within 5 minutes I had what I needed. Thanks! 👍

Had a few issues during the purchase. I listed my concerns on a previous Google review. Pam called me and addressed my concerns. I genuinely feel like she cares about the service to their customers. My son loves his Haro and after speaking with Pam I feel much better about my purchase.
