Dedicated to Sharing the Arts with the World through the Life and Vision of Birger Sandzen
The art of Birger Sandzén is exhibited throughout the year, along with guest artists, special traveling exhibitions and works from the collection. More than 1200 exhibitions have been displayed since the gallery opened in 1957. In addition, gallery talks, chamber music concerts, docent tours, and educational programs are also an integral aspect of the Gallery's activities. Through the exhibits and activities, the gallery seeks to continue the work of Sandzén by encouraging young and developing artists. Gallery docents strongly believe in educating the next generation of visitors today.
The focal point of the Gallery's art collections is the work of Birger Sandzén. It houses the largest and most extensive collection of his oil paintings, watercolors, prints and drawings found anywhere in the world. It also has an archives composed of correspondence and other materials related to Birger Sandzen, his family and contemporaries. Among other artists represented in the collections are Henry Varnum Poor, Doel Reed, Carl Milles, B.J.O. Nordfeldt, Lester Raymer, Raymond Jonson, and John Stuart Curry. The gallery also has an impressive collection of prints, ranging from European to American regionalist printmakers and a variety of art from Asia.
