Birmingham Community Charter High School is a public coeducational high school in the neighborhood/district of Lake Balboa in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles, California, United States. It was founded in 1953 as a 7–12 grade combined high school, and became solely a senior high school in 1963. The school has a Van Nuys address and serves Lake Balboa, parts of Encino, and Amestoy Estates. The school is within the Los Angeles Unified School District but it is operated as an internal charter school.HistoryThe school opened in 1953, during the immediate post-World War II era. Originally it served children from families newly settled in the San Fernando Valley. I attended the combination Birmingham Jr and Sr. High school from 1960 to 1965. We had great athletic teams, such as many multiple L A Unified City championships in swimming, at all levels, Varsity, Bee and Cee teams over the years. I was in the band that attended the football games that won the West Valley League title from 1961 through 1963, when we won the L A Unified City Championship against L A High School, 21-14. Also in '63, we won the City Baseball Championship. Go Braves!

As the Wife of former Swim Coach Ralph De Leon, I would like to know why there is no mention of the powerful Swimming program that he had put together during the fifties and the sixties They were the West Valley Champions and the team to beat. In the fifties they won the first City Championship in Birmingham's History. They went on to win three more City Championships under the tutelage of Coach De Leon . He left Birmingham in 1961 and went to Pierce College in Woodland Hills and continued coaching various sports. He continued coaching swimming and water polo at Pierce College.

HORRIBLE SCHOOL! I MEAN COMPLETELY HORRIBLE, I RECOMMEND NOT SENDING YOUR CHILD HERE , PRINCIPLE IS NEVER PRESENT DURING ALTERCATIONS, VERBAL ABUSE, OR PHYSICAL ABUSE. THE PRINCIPLE ALWAYS SENDS MS.REIGHSBORD TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND SHE KICKED MY DAUGHTER OUT AFTER SHE WAS ATTACKED FOR NO REASON AND ALLOWED THE OTHER GIRL TO STAY. THIS SCHOOL IS SO MESSED UP , I RECOMMEND SENDING ALL OF YOUR PUPILS TO RESEDA HIGH SCHOOL. ALL THE TEACHERS ARE AT BIRMINGHAM HS ARE HERE FOR A PAY CHECK ! NOT TO HELP ARE KIDS BETTER THEMSELVES.
