Story

The train route used by the 1880 Train has been in place for over 100 years, and is a 10 mile stretch that runs through the central part of the Black Hills of South Dakota. Passengers can expect to see scenery like forests, meadows, and creeks, along with wildlife like deer and turkey. The train ride is narrated, and there is also a guide book available for a fee. Over 15 road crossings each way means plenty of chances to hear the unique and cherished sound of a steam whistle.

Great little experience. Yummy popcorn and very nice people. This last time I was planning a train ride with my family, I was pregnant but had some complications and had to cancel last minute. They refunded no questions asked and was concerned for my well-being and hoped all well. I highly recommend this ride. So pretty to see and perfect for something to do as a couple. Can't wait to go again.

My grandson Silas is wheelchair bound and non verbal. But he had a great time on the train. He was excited, smiled and was very alert during our ride. The extra attention the he got from the attendants made his day and also ours. As a family we try to do things that he will get the most out of an this is a great experience for families with special needs. Its very calming and soothing but lots of to see and do.

The depot is such a neat place and the old engines and cars are in beautiful condition. A visit gere leaves you with a good nostalgic feeling. Plus, the scenery along the railroad route is second to none.

Great little ride through scenic area. Santa train is nice but this definitely isn't for a family on a budget, prices seem excessive for local residents.

Love, love. All seats are assigned, make sure you make reservations. We did the wine tasting ride. Was excellent. Plenty of wine and food provided to pair with the wine. Beautiful ride! About 2 hours round trip.
