The lower campsites are beautiful and right next to the water. Be aware that if you camp on the North end, there is a bar next door that plays loud music till late, especially on the weekends.

We read that there was a 30 mile trail in the area, which we wanted to hike on. We quickly learned that this is an ORV/snowmobile trail, not a hiking trail, and may be dangerous because the ORVs and motorbikes tear through at fast speeds. The upper campground allows ORVs therefore it was very noisy all day. The lower campground, which is on the lake, was a lot quieter since it does not allow ORVs to drive around. The lake is nice and clear and campsites are well-shaded. Although it is a rustic campground, it was packed with RVs running generators, so it was not the peaceful camp experience we typically expext in a rustic state forest campground.

Wonderful family camping area, both by the lake and at the top sites.
