About

This is going to be a running log of my experiences during the summer of 2011 at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary

Story

Professional Animal Retirement Center (PARC), Inc., known locally as "Black Pine Animal Sanctuary" in Albion, Indiana is a non-profit exotic animal sanctuary, a "last chance" refuge for captive-raised non-domestic animals in need. We exist to give rescued and retired exotic animals a safe haven, and to educate people and enhance their knowledge of exotic and endangered species, and responsible pet ownership. This is a log of my internship experiences during the summer of 2011

Mission

To gain an understanding on what it takes to run a non-profit animal sanctuary and learn valuable skills in the Animal Husbandry field.

Such a nice facility. I've been here on multiple occasions, and it has always been very worthwhile. You learn a lot, and its a nice place to see animals with or without a tour. Not only that, but its so good for the animals who went through so much to be able to live out the rest of their days in such a rehabilitating environment.

Absolutely loved this place. The animals all appear to be rescues and each one has an amazing story though some are heart breaking. The staff and volunteers are wonderful people. Being a few feet from the tigers, lions and bears at this place cannot be compared to going to the zoo. A must see for animal lovers.

AMAZING! Animals are so well cared for, and have plenty of space. The tours are very informative and you can see the animals as close as needed. It stresses the issue of keeping exotic animals in homes. The Keepers and staff do a great job to keep it clean and make sure people and animals are enjoying themselves. Great for all ages and groups. Everyone should go!!

Went on a guided tour, then walked around on our own a bit after. Much better than a zoo. Very peaceful and quiet. Love that they have saved so many beautiful animals!!
