The Visitor Center is a great place to visit. They have a beautiful space full of interesting things to see. They have a reptile center, beautiful nature photography, and information on local wildlife. One of my favorite exhibits is the live bumblebee enclosure. My kids love to stop by anytime we visit the park or the zoo.

We drove along the entire Blue Ridge Parkway and were constantly in awe of the beautiful views. We stopped many times to take in the changing scenery and go for short hikes. I recommend taking the side road up Roanoke Mountain and taking the short hike to the top. The view from the top isn't the greatest but the hike is quiet and through a pretty forest. Take your time along the parkway, you will be glad you did. (Side note: if you are wondering what the Shenandoah Parkway is like, this is pretty much the same but free).

Nice visitor's center, friendly staff.  We love the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A very modern, unique visitor center at the entrance to the BRP from Asheville, NC. Very nice bathrooms are probably the most important thing here. The rangers are also very friendly and helpful with planning stops along the way. Pick up a map here as cell phone service is spotty along most of the parkway. Watch out for people in a craze for looking at leaves flying through the parking lot the wrong way as we almost got taken out.
