Story

Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center traces its roots back to 1953 when Rev. Danny Lesley originally organized the church as Junland Pentecostal Church. The 25 member congregation was first housed in a 24 foot by 28 foot building.

In 1955 Rev. O.S. Elledge accepted the call to serve the young church as pastor. Membership began to increase and it was soon necessary to relocate the church to its current location on Walnut Street in Poplar Bluff where it became East Side United Pentecostal Church. In the late 1960s the church renamed itself Bluff City United Pentecostal Church. Reverend O.S. Elledge served the church as pastor for over 43 years, during which time the church grew and ministered to many families and individuals in the Poplar Bluff area.

In 1999 the congregation experienced the passing of its long-time pastor and leader Rev. O.S. Elledge, Rev. Ted Elledge, who had served as co-pastor, became the sole pastor and continued to lead the church with passion and a vision for expansion.

Rev. Jerry and Rhonda Williams joined the Bluff City UPC church family in April 2010 and in September of the same year were elected to serve as co-pastor with Rev. Ted Elledge. In April 2011 Rev. Elledge retired and Rev. Jerry Williams continues to pastor and lead our congregation with fresh vision and desire to see families connected to Jesus Christ. With the continued expansion of its facilities and the addition of its Family Life Center the congregation changed its name to Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center. The church has gathered at its current location at 200 Walnut since 1955.
