I'm not one to frequent cemeteries, in fact, I usually stay out of them. I almost considered skipping this spot as we were getting ready to leave Savannah, but I'm glad we came since I don't know when I will get back to this charming city. First of all, you won't be the only tourist there! There were TONS! You can even do a group tour of this burial ground, if we had more time that would have been something interesting as I caught snippets of what the tour guides were saying. I'd describe this historical cemetery as eerie, but beautiful. You do have the Spanish Moss hanging down throughout the cemetery, plus tons of beautiful pink and purple flowers throughout. Some of the tombstones are quite elaborate works of art. I'd budget spending 20-60 minutes on here, it all depends on how much you feel like walking.

Terrific place to visit and walk around. Google maps takes you on a bit of a back roads adventure but it was worth it. We actually hadn't planned on coming here during our vacation but I'm very glad we did. It was well worth the side trip

If you love moss covered live oaks shading the final resting place for hundreds of permanent Savannah residents dating from 1802 to the present, then this place is for you. It's been called the nation's most haunted cemetery, yet I witnessed no apparitions. The office staff are extremely helpful in providing historic details and offer a free map, but I recommend joining a guided tour so as to avoid getting lost among the monuments or missing any of this site's unique and colorful history.

Wow. This place is beautiful. There are great statues and monuments throughout. Many flowers are in bloom and the Spanish moss hanging in the trees throughout makes it even more beautiful to meander through. We took the recommended historic route to the river and back and stopped at many place to take in the beauty. One thing - they ask for a donation for the historical society which I am cool with, but all I had was a $20 and asked for change. The woman told me to make change out of a donation jar and the man there looked at me like I was a burglar even though I was depositing $20. So, maybe take a $5 or $10 if you plan on donating! Lol.

I waited for many years to visit Savannah. I came all the way from Virginia to discover that my favorite part of this town is Bonaventure Cemetery! There are so many things to see there. Azaleas in many colors blooming all around. Truly a magical place! The Spanish moss in the trees, the beautiful statues and angels create a special ambiance...
