This is a darling bookstore. They have tons of books in the kid's section and some really cute gift items as well. The adult book selection is pretty good too.

Toy store: "No Kids ALLOWED" My family and I were Christmas shopping. Super excited. Loved coming to this store before...I have two well behaved toddlers....but nonetheless they are still kids in a toy store. They wanted to play! This store is more interested in their displays than they are at allowing children to try things out. They have large "standing up stuffed animals." They have a "do not sit on me" sign. I understand that...I don't understand why it is in their reach. They have a sticky dart board with a "try me" sign and a "do not touch me" on the same thing. I understand it can be ruined but why would it be in arms reach? They had adorable tools on a rack...not stable AND within reach. they have many decorations...one of which are mobiles in the tree. They had fallen due to previous people maybe...the employee kindly reminded ME and MY children that THOSE are not for playing. 😑. Also, in this toy store they have a beautiful fluffy grey cat....who does not like children. He bit mine. Why is there a cat who hates kids in a kids toy store? Needless to say...we are on our way to Staunton to Pufferbellies where we can play.

This is quite possibly the best bookstore I have ever been to. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and I was proud to be able to support the local business. Their collection of books is incredibly diverse, and their prices are beyond reasonable. It would be impossible to leave the store without finding something of interest.

We live in DC and drive south to Tennessee twice a year. Each time we make the trip, we plan it around a stop in Lexington to go to this bookstore. Although it doesn't have the huge stock of some of the mega-bookmarts, or even of our beloved independent Politics & Prose bookstore in DC, it has a wonderful selection, especially in history and fiction. The best part of the bookstore, though, is the children's section, which has beautiful books for all ages, delightful non-plastic non-electronic toys, comfy chairs (they're actually found throughout the store), and a sheltering painted tree that gives one the feeling of being in the middle of a great story. The staff is very helpful, and you can spend hours there in perfect comfort, reading and relaxing. Nearby and cafes and restaurants for espresso and lunch breaks, and wonderful chocolaterie down the street. You'll love it!
